Warning: sodium chloride alert. It looks like a wily GameStop employee has snapped what appears to be the launch price (and date) of Sony’s NGP (the PSP2).
Promised by Sony to be “affordable,” the pocket-powerhouse is quoted with a price of $299.99 (roughly €219/£186).
As GameStop usually put a default placeholder of $999.99 on any product they don’t currently know the actual price of (you may have seen that story circling the interweb; we didn’t report on it for obvious reasons), this does appear to be at least plausible.
What does smell fishy is the release date, as launching on New Year’s Day 2012 (see image below) just doesn’t sound feasible. Not when, you know, a lot of stores are actually shut. Take this for what it is – a rumour.

Wow, really hope it makes this year.
Sony need to test thouroughly and start mass production by March,
Then they can work on the system software + security while they’re waiting for sufficient stock?

I think it can be sensible to presume that the date shown above could be an indicator as to perhaps the latests its coming out or the earliest.

I’d have to strongly consider one for that price but it’s the launch and upcoming software that will determine a purchase.

Love the price, that would make it a day one for me. The date is likely just a place holder. And place holder dates are quite often set at the end of the expected release window, which would make sense since Sony want’s to launch it sometime this year, at least in 1 region.

Even with VAT added on, that would be a day 1 purchase for me. £200 – £250 is about right.

PS3 cost the same, one should buy a second PS3 instead. Seriously.
spooner_22
No doubt it will be over 250 quid which is ridiculous for a handheld. You can buy a ps3 for that price. No go for me.

Hmmm not sure it’s legit to be honest but if so that would be around £250 UK price and just about the sweet spot for me, any more and I’d be struggling to afford.

£250 is about my limit for buying psp2, hope it comes out this year. need to find somewhere to pre order mine soon.
