Portal 2 DLC Coming This Summer

Portal 2 is currently resting at top the metacritic leader board as the highest rated game of 2011, so it seems natural that Valve would want to push out some to DLC to top it off with. According to the VP of marketing at Valve, Doug Lombardi, that’s exactly what they plan to do.

During an interview with Fast Company, Doug not only confirmed that DLC is coming but he even gave a time frame.

“We will be announcing some DLC for it, so folks can keep a look out for more content coming this summer. We’ll be putting more details out about that in a week or so. We’ll support that with more videos or more comics.”

So there you have it. DLC is coming this summer and we should get more details next week.

With all the negativity in the industry right now due to the PSN fiasco it’s nice to get some good news that’s likely to put a smile on gamers faces. We know that for a lot of you, this will do the trick.

  1. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. :D

  2. The world would be a better place with a little more Cave Johnson :-) or perhaps Wheatley’s adventures in space?

  3. Need to get this game this weekend :-).

Gonna treat myself to some Portal!

  4. I was wondering what kind of DLC they could release. I still have to finish the campaign so I don’t know if campaign-based content would make sense (maybe some more singleplayer test chambers?) but even if they release multiplayer content (coop test chambers) I would get it no matter what. This is a game where I would actually consider buying map packs! :D

    • I’m not sure about Steam on PS3, but on PC, all Valve’s DLC has been free.

      • Are the Half Life 2 Episodes considered DLC?

      • No, they’re full games.

      • just bought the orange box today(i know, just.) im adoring portal 1.
not going to rush through it, but so looking forward to portal 2 back to back.

      • Well, I understand they want to milk the franchise but I’ve played DLC content that was cheaper and offered more than the episodes…

  5. I wonder if the PSN will be back up in time for the release of the dlc :p

  6. Sweet, been playing through the co-op levels, they’re fantastic. I dont think single player can have dlc, not storywise anyway. Test chambers however would be great.

  7. This has made my day, and its only 10:20!!:P Wondering what they could do with it… I really really want for there to be a free-roam section on the surface just going anywhere and doing anything with your portal gun:)

  8. Thats good to hear, although I’ve not had chance to play Portal2 very much since it was released… Maybe tomorrow (friday) when there’s nothing on the televison here in the UK – I’ll get a little further with it :)

    • I’ve got no work lined up Friday morning so I will be sleeping for Britain…

  9. Glad to see them supporting it. Might pick it up next week.

  10. Awesome! I’m expecting advanced test chambers like in the first one and perhaps advanced co-op ones. Those will be free through Steam, right?
Now, if there’s more single-player DLC (as big as Portal 1?) then they could charge what they want and I’d buy it.
