Kinect Star Wars Delayed

Microsoft have taken the brave step of putting off one of their big hopes for the holiday season. Kinect Star Wars had been gaining quite a lot of less than enthusiastic comments from those who had tried it in recent preview events.

In spite of a huge license and some interesting potential, previewers seemed to be of the opinion that is just didn’t work very well. We can only hope that this postponement of the release is the result of attempts to improve the gameplay.

A spokesperson has told Official Xbox Magazine that “Microsoft and LucasArts have elected to move the launch of Kinect Star Wars beyond holiday 2011 to ensure the full potential of this title is realised,”

The delay, pushing this hot holiday game beyond Christmas, also applies to that limited edition R2D2 console and C3P0 controller that was due to be bundled with it.

  1. I’ve not had a go on this yet but it does look a bit mixed up. I mean, using force push via kinect must be BRILLIANT, but pretending to hold an invisible lightsaber? Even the Star Wars Kid could do better than that!

    • It’s a shame Microsoft’s money prevented a PS Move version, and with the Move it could have been an excellent game, now being Kinect-only it’s destined to be a laughing stock title. (I think Microsoft saw the near-finished game and decided that to launch this as a flagship Kinect title would doom the hardware more that it is already..)

  2. Good. It was shit.

    • Pitty that it will still be released.

    • Haha! Don’t sugar-coat it or anything.

  3. Would work too well on move with a nav too!!!!! Why hasn’t Sony been begging to do this, cheap PS3s + star wars move game = £$¥

    • Forgot to mention – yes, the Kinect one looks awful imo..

  4. Didn’t even realise it was scheduled for release this year. Can’t say I’m surprised it’s been delayed.

  5. It looked terrible at E3, I still don’t understand why MS even showed it. It was embarrassing to watch.

  6. Move written all over it……

  7. It’s a no brainer on move to have a lightsabre game. You could have the added bonus of your sabre blade being the same colour as the move wands ball.

    • Yeah I agree completely. This has been the motion control dream since motion control started. My only hope is that they are working on something amazing behind closed doors.

  8. From what i have seen so far, it needs a bit of work as most gamers despise lag. ;) Oh and it doesn’t look that fun. I wonder who Peter will bully into reviewing it when it comes out? :p

  9. It’s a game that definitely needs more work.
If they can eliminate the lag, they’re sorted though.

  10. Gimmicky motion-controlled device thats perfect for mini games but not much else doesn’t translate well into a full game, who knew ;)
