Here’s one you probably didn’t see coming. Leading UK supermarket Tesco has announced that it will be the only retailer in the region where gamers can get their hands on the Joker’s Carnival Challenge Map DLC.
Despite how addictive they were in Arkham Asylum, surely missing out on a few challenges isn’t such a biggy, however missing out on “around four hours” of exclusive content is something fans of the action adventure sequel will take very seriously and that’s exactly what Tesco is promising with the Joker’s Carnival.
Pre-ordering the game from the Tesco website will bag you a DLC code which will be sent via e-mail a couple of days after launch. Those who decide to pick up Arkham City through a regular branch will have the same code stored within the game case.

Crap, they really are serious about cornering the games market, aren’t they?
rht992
its a bit worrying. never liked them. don’t like having one retailer in control.
colmshan1990
Especially a retailer which will only ever focus on the biggest titles.
If you take away the money a COD, Batman, FIFA or another major release would make from a specialist store, what are they left with to buy in the rarer, more niche titles?
Sympozium
Its cool that they’ve suddenly decided to do exclusive dlc… but its annoying how it is Tesco rather than a games specialist.
I will wait for the dlc in the future I hope.
Jaffa-the-Cake
It’s better than having it exclusive to a game specialist retailer. Tesco have very competitive pricing strategy and it will certainly be cheaper than the rip off merchants *cough* GAME *cough*
Maney911
id rather it went to a game specialist, tesco can afford to offer games really cheap which isnt good for us when traditional games shops end up closing down and we end up only being able to buy chart games from places like tesco, no more finding that little gem of a game because theyll only stock fifa and cod because they make money.
MaD dOctoR 79
they don’t have to be competitive if they are the only ones who have the code.
Sympozium
Well I’m not really sure about using Tesco’s site, I’d rather use Amazon, shopto etc. etc…. although wait, they’re not games specialists, ha I shouldn’t have said that in the first place I guess.
tonycawley
Or you could’ve just deleted what you were typing when you realised it was utter nonsense, instead of just saying what you said.
yogdog
Not a fan of this by any means, would rather everyone had access to it rather than just people who buy from Tesco. Is this the way things are going?
bunimomike
It would appear so. Every retailer is busy trying to gain an advantage and with the buying power of Tesco, expect more of this to come. From my perspective, I’m hoping that nothing is truly exclusive (with any title) and that it’s just a delayed release on the PSN. Say, a month later maybe.
DrNate86
I’m pretty sure all the DLC from the first game was made available on PSN, though it took a long time. It wouldn’t be surprising if this was the same!
Jaffa-the-Cake
I’m 100 percent sure it’ll become paid dlc in the future. Everything always does, publishers aren’t stupid they know that if it’s preorder exclusive for a little while then released at a later date as paid for dlc it’ll sell. Just like gta, cod etc
Foxhound_Solid
Game for me I think….
StevenHibs
It will be available to everyone eventually anyway
e8
That’s what i thought about the war horse in rdr, but it never became a dlc.
Topov81
Maybe not, but ShopTo were recently selling off RDR pre-order codes for 1p (which gave you all of the DLC). Nice!
Rocket_345
But rockstar generally sell the more expensive add on content rather than little things like other devs. There was also an outfit which never became available.
DrNate86
I’m pretty sure the war horse is available now, as of a month or so ago.
moshi
Hell I will just pay the dlc when it comes out instead of moaning about the injustice or just go to my local tesco less than mile away and pick up the game
gaffers101
Have pre-ordered this for a great price. I’ll wait for the DLc to come out on the store thanks.
Jack_napier1318
If they want people to go to Tesco they should do something about that weird mouldy bread smell they have. Everytime I go it gets worse and worse.
The Lone Steven
Tesco? What the… I admit that it is a be strange seeing them with this exclusive DLC. It seems they are serious about entering the gaming market. If game specilasts get closed down due to lack of profits, then finding a game from last year would be very hard as they only stock chart games. I have seen their preowned prices and it is a bit of a joke.
I bet it will be on the store within the year. But still Tesco? What happened to one of the major game retailers doing this? O_O
Reality Check
I can’t stand all this DLC BULLSH*T :-/ I never bother with it all. I just buy the main game & i am happy. It’s pointless getting say a new outfit & things like that? It’s all a con. But people lap it up. How SAD.
