Square Enix Turns Full Focus On FF Versus XIII

With Final Fantasy XIII-2 nearing completion (a release date expected to be announced at TGS,) producer Yoshinori Kitase has confirmed that Final Fantasy Versus XIII has finally entered into full development. Announced at E3 2006 Versus is an action RPG in a slightly modernised setting, though still anchored in the Fabula Nova Crystallis universe which also covers FF XIII, XIII-2, and Type-0 (formerly known as Agito XIII.)

“For Type-0 and Versus XIII we are giving 100% to development,” Kitase said at a fan event for Final Fantasy XIII-2, the former PSP title expected to launch next month in Japan.

Though this is reassuring news for fans who have been cautiously keeping an eye on Versus XIII, the game won’t be showing at this year Tokyo Game Show.

  1. I only recently cancelled my shot-to pre order for this. Had it ordered for £29.99 but figured it would never see the light of day. Now this….. still very happy that me may be seeing more sometime soon!

  2. It better still be F-F-IN-PS3 ONLY still :D

  3. Lovely. I loved FF XIII, especially once the landscape opened up to allow for some exploration, so I’m pretty excited about the XIII-2 and the Versus version which seems to have been talked about for the last couple of years.

  4. I was shocked when I realized that FFXIII-2 will be released so soon while Versus XIII is still wrapped in mystery… Well, at least I get my hands on any new FF game soon. I don’t actually care which one comes first because I’m fairly sure I will enjoy both of them.
