Square Enix Turns Full Focus On FF Versus XIII

With Final Fantasy XIII-2 nearing completion (a release date expected to be announced at TGS,) producer Yoshinori Kitase has confirmed that Final Fantasy Versus XIII has finally entered into full development. Announced at E3 2006 Versus is an action RPG in a slightly modernised setting, though still anchored in the Fabula Nova Crystallis universe which also covers FF XIII, XIII-2, and Type-0 (formerly known as Agito XIII.)

“For Type-0 and Versus XIII we are giving 100% to development,” Kitase said at a fan event for Final Fantasy XIII-2, the former PSP title expected to launch next month in Japan.

Though this is reassuring news for fans who have been cautiously keeping an eye on Versus XIII, the game won’t be showing at this year Tokyo Game Show.

  1. I thought Type-0 was removed from the Fabula Nova Crystallis and that was part of the reason for the name change..

  2. 100% only now? Where have their resources been directed previously?
No wonder it’s been taking so long.

    • deus ex?

      • Oops, of course. I suppose it’s a good thing that they aren’t spreading themselves too thinly in that case and focusing on one game at a time.

  3. Awesome, I guess from this we can gather that XIII-2 is all but complete. Hopefully that means localisation can start soon.

  4. The ff game names, so many numbers.. It’s so confusing
