Community Round-Up: 17/09/11

The last week has flown by, so stop what you’re doing, and catch up with this week’s Community Round-up! It’s been a busy week here at TSA, with a plethora of reviews and news, so let’s begin.

This week, we gave you the chance to win one of five copies of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. It was a simple competition, all you needed to do was email the answers to three questions relating to the game, and then we would randomly pick 5 lucky winners from the correct answers. The competition closed yesterday, so I hope you’ve all entered otherwise it’s too late (unless you have a time machine obviously!).

The winners have been emailed already, and the results should be posted publicly later on today.

Be sure to keep checking TSA, as this week we will be offering you the chance to win one of five copies of a soon-to-be released game, that last year hosted one of the most popular competitions TSA’s ever held!

If you don’t know what TSA Meets are, or haven’t signed up for any, you’re missing out on playing with TSA’s best members, so why not put your name down for one? Let’s see what’s happening this week.

First up, is the regular Uncharted 2 Meet taking place at 7pm tonight, and hosted by Bodachi. Also at 7pm, is the ‘Whatever’s On’ Beta Meet, which this week features Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One. As usual, your regular host Death_in_Flamez will be organising the Meet.

On Sunday, CarBoyCam is hosting a Gran Turismo 5 Meet called ‘Sunday Shuffle’, with full details in the forum thread. That kicks off at 2pm, so wolf down your Sunday lunch and then head to the track! The weekly DiRT 3 Meet takes place at 4pm, hosted by Manorhowze and as usual is filling up quickly. The usual SARPBC Meet is now under its own name, and kicks off at 7pm. This week they’re trialling a two hour Meet, due to popular demand.

There’s even a forum thread to laugh at Rainyday’s mistake of creating the Red Dead Redemption Meet under the title of ‘Read Description’, but if you do feel like some cowboy action, make sure you’re there on Monday at 7pm for the return of the regular meet. At 8pm, the GT5 Monday Meet returns, see the GT5 thread for details.

Later on in the week, we have a repeat of the Resistance 3 Meet that sprung up from nowhere. Quite a healthy turn out on the first go around, so hopefully that can continue. [Is this where I come in and do a teaser? – Tef]

Remember to take a look at the Meets page to check out the other meets that take your fancy, or feel free to host your own meet, provided you have at least 250 TSA points.

Delving into this week’s articles we have the weekly WeView feature. Last week had you reviewing MAG, and this week has you taking on the challenge of finding words to express your opinions on Angry Birds. Obviously you need to head to this forum thread to do so.

Looking at the reviews, first up we’ve got Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine reviewed by Dan, while Jim reviews Champion Jockey. Al reviewed Driver Renegade 3D, and Revoltin’ Youth (a PS Mini) gets reviewed by Dan. For the AAA games this week, firstly, Peter reviewed Gears of War 3. You’ll need to take a look to see if the score he gave will keep Cliffy B happy. Al also reviewed F1 2011, and will hopefully give you a hand in deciding if it’s come far enough from its predecessor to warrant a purchase.

If you’re thinking of picking up Gears 3, and want a quick refresher on what happened in Gears 1 & 2, Dan has a fantastic piece as part of TSA’s ‘Previously On’ series. Be warned though, it is just one giant spoiler!

As per usual, this week’s What We Played is always worth a read, as is this week’s TSA podcast always worth a listen. Peter also asks what you want to see of TSA at Eurogamer Expo 2011. This isn’t just for the lucky ones among us (me included) that are going to the event, TSA will be providing plenty of articles, as well as podcasts for those that can’t be there.

Peaking into the Forums now, there’s been some great threads this week. Remember though, you enter General Chat at your own peril as it is un-moderated, and has a funny smell.

  • Eldave0 asks for advice on which games will help him succeed in the challenge he’s set himself – to reach Trophy level 15 by the end of the year. I know there are plenty of trophy hoarders here on TSA, so go and help out another member if you wish.
  • I’m going to simplify Sympozium’s thread as he wants to know which genres do you think should make a comeback? Personally, I’d love to see more strategy games coming to consoles, as well as Sympozium’s suggestion of Tycoon games – who wouldn’t want to see Theme Hospital return!
  • If you’ve tried out the new FIFA 12 demo this week, share your thoughts in this thread. I’m not a massive FIFA fan myself, although I do play local split screen matches with my friends quite a bit. I’ve heard though that the controls have all changed, so maybe you’ve found the perfect customisation? Let us know.
  • If you’re heading to the Eurogamer Expo next weekend, this is the thread for you, as Peter is suggesting we all meet up for a pint (or several) afterwards seeing as most of the TSA staff are going, as are many of the TSA regulars.

That’s all for this week, and I’m sorry to say, I’ll be taking a short break from these Roundups. I’m moving into University tomorrow, and so the coming week is Freshers week. I’ll be in no fit state to type up these roundups to you lovely people, but I’ll leave you in the terrible and torturous hands of teflon, who I hope can hold down the fort for a couple of weeks whilst I get settled. Fear not though, I’ll still be around on TSA, and will be at next week’s Eurogamer Expo, so I hope to see some of you then! Bye!

  1. Lovely round up, I ll be on R&C later tonight :) Also there were quite a lot of reviews this week, which have all been great to read. Keep it up TSA :D I might boycott the next round up now…

  2. Best check my inbox to see If I have won… my bad luck persists then.

    • We have more new games to give away next week, you still have chance!

      • They better not be Minis .

      • Does it include From Dust? ^_^ Actually, i have an idea for a comp. I shall speak to you about it when you are free. :)

      • F1 2011 obviously ;)

  3. You didn’t mention my DAO review. Teflon would have. *storms out and burns the barrel*. Oh shideballs! Tef is back err… *puts up the anti gazzagb flags* :p

    • yes! an urge to get a bigger emphasis on new posts in the TSA Verdict section :D

      • I am surpised that Gazz didn’t inlcude it. I worked hard at that review and my skills were a bit rusty. I was forced to play a very enjoyable game and is my all time favorite RPG. Didn’t he know what i went through to review it? :op

Actually, i may review DA2 soon as i have played it long enough to review it and it does make sense to do a sequel review straight after. If It doesn’t get mentioned in the round up, i will burn gazz or tef’s ps3s to the ground and force them to drink pepsi, listen to Justin Bieber, watch every uwe boll film. :op

      • That’s cool, haha! Tef can redeem himself (from what i don’t know) if he mentions it next week. I wrote a Resistance 3 review yesterday and I have agreed to write some reviews up for a small gaming website that has just started so I’ve got a lot in the running at the moment

    • Sorry dude, I didn’t see it! I usually do the write up on Fridays, so tweet me a link during the day and I’ll try to include it if I can! :)

      • You have till next week or you will face my wrath! I’m not joking, i will subject you to those awful and deadly things.

To be fair i did the review on friday so you won’t get killed very soon. :)
