Community Round-Up: 03/09/11

Hello, it’s time for another community round-up! With the bank holiday last weekend, this week seems to have flown by.

Last week, you may remember there was a forum thread I mentioned last week, for applications to become a member of TSA’s Community Team. Well I’m happy to be able to announce that it CrawFail, who occasionally goes by the name of Matt, has filled the spot. Finally there’s someone below me in the line of succession!

Let’s take a look at what has been going on in the world that is TSA, shall we?

Whilst there have been no new competitions this week, we do have the details on the semi-final results from the Dirt 3 Tournament. Jambo will soon be reporting on the overall winner, at the beginning of next week, along with the last two winners of Dirt 3 cups. All the races are actually completed, so if you feel like getting a spoiler or two, you can head to the forum thread, and see.

Heading into the finals were Spooferbarnabas and Maneorix, who beat CarBoyCam and Manorhowze respectively. Spoof and Maneorix are old competitors from the King of Killzone days, so it will be very interesting to see who manages to come out on top when guns are left behind.

We also had the winners for the Pocket Halfpipe competition announced on Tuesday. The Community Team voted on what we thought were the funniest skating tricks you had come up with, and congratulations go to TheBerzerka, FalconRedux, DR-DAVROS, Crazy_Del and nemesisND1derboy, who should have had the codes sent to their email addresses by now. If you want to see what tricks they invented, go and have a quick look, but I wouldn’t advise you to try any of them. If you do, though, make sure to put it on YouTube for us all to laugh at your painful expense!

I also know that we’ve got two competitions coming up very soon that I’m sure you’ll all be interested in. I can’t say what they are just yet, but if you fancy yourself winning one (or even two if you’re really lucky!) upcoming PS3 games keep checking TSA for details.

Tonight, you can help Aquastyle celebrate his birthday by playing in the Uncharted 2 meet. We were discussing it during the Assassins Creed Meet last week,  although I’m still confused about how old everyone is (I blame Death_In_Flamez for confusing us all!). The celebration kicks off at 7pm, so get your name down for that. Later on tonight, sanmartinez is also hosting a Bioshock 2 meet at 9pm.

For Sunday, Manorhowze is hosting the regular DiRT 3 meet taking place at 4pm, although that’s looking pretty full! DiRT3 is a definite favourite here at TSA, and as mentioned above, there’s the results of the DiRT 3 tournament coming in the next few days. Again, there’s also the regular SARPBC meet at 7pm, hosted by Death_In_Flamez.

Monday night sees the Red Dead Redemption meet return, it maybe that Rockstar’s recent announcement of the ‘Myths and Mavericks’ DLC pack has sparked some interest in the game. Personally, I loved it, it was one of the few games I’ve played where I’ve really connected with the characters, and I totally love the environment and animals (except for those damn cougars!)

I’m sure there will at some point be a meet for the Assassins Creed Revelations Beta, if nobody else does, I’ll probably host a Meet myself. I love the Assassins Creed games, and am really hoping Ubisoft fix the matchmaking system as that ruined Brotherhood’s multiplayer for me.

Remember to visit the Meets page to check out the other meets hosted by TSAers for this week, or feel free to host your own meet, provided you have at least 250 TSA points.

First off, Gamoc has the latest edition of Cheap PC Gaming, this time featuring Armadillo Run, which looks like a nice physics-based puzzle game. The game itself can be picked up for £10, or there’s a demo for you to try out before hand. Overall, Gamoc nicely sums it up, suggesting “If you’re at all interested in building bridges, catapults, rocket-based elevators or elasticated moving platforms, then you’ll have a great time with Armadillo Run”.

Greg has this week’s ‘What We Played’ allowing you all to stalk find out what the TSA Staff have been playing this week, and for you to share what you yourselves have been playing. You can also read the latest Meet the Reader, which this week features Bodachi. If you want to get really intimate though, you could look for his Singstar videos on the PS3’s Singstar Viewer, although I hear he doesn’t take requests sadly.

Last week’s WeView featured Flower, and you can read the verdict here. This week looks at Metal Gear Solid 4, so let us know in the forum what you think of the game. Personally, I didn’t get very far in it at all; I borrowed it from a friend, but got bored in the opening cutscene and gave up if I remember correctly. I should probably give it another go, especially as TSA gave it a 10/10 score.

Jas-n has got September’s Folding@Home update, so take a look if you like looking at stats, and want to know where you rank amongst the other folders at TSA, and see how the Team is doing overall. The F@H application allows you to harvest the PS3’s processing power to handle data, which is looking at how protein molecules assemble themselves or ‘fold’. Reseach here may lead to cures for “Alzheimer’s, Huntingdon’s, Parkinson’s and cancer as well as working to develop new antibiotics.” If you’re interested, you can join the TSA folding team, all the information you need is in the article.

Taking a peek into the forums, they seem to be unusually quieter this week, but that won’t stop me digging through and posting some highlights here!*

  • There’s a thread for the Assassins Creed Revelations beta, and as the beta went live today, why don’t you discuss what you think of the game? All PS+’ers and uPlay members can get the Beta, and seeing as uPlay is free to sign up for, everyone can get the Beta if they wish.
  • Fresh191 is asking who’s going to the Eurogamer Expo this year. I’m going and am looking forward to meeting with other TSA’ers, I know quite a few people are going so it should be a great get-together!
  • If you’ve got some time to spare, why not take a look at Sympozium’s Youtube Video thread and watch some of the videos that have been posted there, or post your personal favourite videos for others to see.
  • There’s also the usual Demotivational Thread that has had some particularly hilarious updates this week!

That’s all this week, hopefully the forums will liven up again for next week’s roundup, but if not, I’ll have a word with Steven to start spamming the forums again!** Farewell my friends!

*General Chat is un-moderated and is unsuitable for showing to your grandmother. You’ll go to hell if you do.
**Only joking. I’m not that cruel.

-The Community Round-Up is written by Gazzagb these days. Bravo, say I. Bravo!
