Here’s some bad news for Vita owners: Trendy Entertainment has stopped trying to make Dungeon Defenders for the console. Initially shown as a tech demo way back when the Vita was still called the NGP, Dungeon Defenders looked like it was going to be excellent on the platform.
Now, via their official forums, Trendy Entertainment has explained why they’re no longer working on the project.
Many fans, including myself, would like to play Dungeon Defenders on the portable device, but ultimately, we’ve decided to divert those resources to other pursuits. We can’t talk about these at the moment. In fact, you may not hear about these for quite some time. But trust us when we say it’ll be worth the wait
At a time when all eyes are on the Vita’s software line up, this isn’t going to inspire confidence.

Not great news really, but not entirely unsurprising.

“We can’t talk about these at the moment. In fact, you may not hear about these for quite some time. But trust us when we say it’ll be worth the wait”
Er. Wow. What’s this? New portable…?
Joshua Hood
I took that to mean they were moving onto a new game, rather than a new portable :P
Omac_brother
Shucks. Was looking forward to it.
That ” In fact, you may not hear about these for quite some time. But trust us when we say it’ll be worth the wait ” sounds like PR BS.

This doesn’t surprise me, given that we haven’t heard anything since the original announcement, the Vita version would probably come out so far behind the original release that it isn’t worth it for them, when they could just be working on a new game.

Are Devs already thinking/realising it’s not worth bothering spending money developing a game with so few Vita sales?
Perhaps switching to mobile development for the game such as iOS?
skibadee
think you can tell by the what he saying there making a new Vita game gaz.
gazzagb
I assumed it would be either Dungeon Defenders 2 or a different game for PSN/XBLA, rather than a new game for Vita. I guess we’ll have to wait and see…
skibadee
wonder if the buy one have 2 has put them off?
Joshua Hood
It’s already on iOS; it’s pretty much already on everything but Vita.
gazzagb
Is it? I must get that then!

No shout out for the tip? tut tut Mr Chapman :p
I was looking forward to this and was disappointed to hear that they had cancelled it. I think as a mobile game it would have worked really well and it would have looked very nice on that OLED screen. We will have many more games to look forward to though.
Peter Chapman
oh, sorry, I forgot! I’ve added it now ;)

Thaaaaaaaaaaaank yooooooooooooou!

Shame, really need a dungeon crawler now that Warrior’s Lair has disappeared. Hopefully they’re working on a sequel that will be cross-platform.
Joshua Hood
Have you given Gameloft’s one (blasphemy, I know) a try?
Jim Hargreaves
Tried Dungeon Hunter: Alliance (think that’s what it was called) on PSN. Kinda liked it but don’t fancy replaying 10 hours of content.
Hoping that Sony will show more Warrior’s Lair soon. It was easily in my top 3 most anticipated Vita games.
Sympozium
It’s a rip-off though?
jesta
Noooo! Was actually one of the many games i was looking forward too.
Why Sony won’t allow game streaming from the PS3 is beyond me. At least i could get my DD fix that way.
Galiophaurus
Am I the only one that considers the response very fishy?
“we’ve decided to divert those resources to other pursuits. We can’t talk about these at the moment. In fact, you may not hear about these for quite some time.”
For me (and I don’t know why) it made me think of a “weird” PS4-Vita thing going on … maybe that’s just me :)

aww, a real downer for me. love the game and it would fit the vita perfectly! tried the ios version and i consider it unplayable. i really wonder why they canceled it – seemed to be not as much of a hassle to make a quick port. also from a commercial view, dont vita gamers (as myself) are starving for new games and buy almost anything?
