It would be dishonest of me to pretend that I’m a fighting game fanatic. I like the genre, I really do, but I’m not particularly good at it. Those that are, like our very own Delriach, are at EVO 2012 this weekend in Las Vegas, and Sony’s Battle Royale is there too.
The light-hearted Smash Bros-esque All-Stars Game has a lot to prove to the EVO audience, with many gamers perhaps rightly assuming that there won’t be the same level of mastery that something like Street Fighter offers, despite the hiring of Seth Killian recently.
They’re trying though. A dedicated trailer for the event (see above) and a new ‘hardcore’ character might go some way to making an impact. That character? Tekken’s Heihachi, who has been in 17 years worth of Tekken games right from the PlayStation era.
“Familiar moves such as his Electric Wind God Fist and Twin Pistons are intact and as deadly as ever,” says the US Blog. “He excels at close-range combat, overwhelming opponents with quick, powerful strikes. Heihachi’s combo potential ranks among the best in the roster, turning every encounter into a stylish martial arts exhibition.”
There’s also a trailer dedicated to him:
Elsewhere, Sony have also announced that Toro the Cat, the closest thing to a mascot the brand has over in the east, will also join the roster.
“Toro brings a unique stance-based fighting style to PlayStation All-Stars,” we’re told, “affording him several different sets of attacks to utilize in combat. He transitions seamlessly from a close-range fighter in his Justice form, to a ranged specialist in his Torobi form, to an effective wide-area controller in his Oni form.”
And again, a trailer to demonstrate this:
Finally, SCEA also revealed a new stage – Parappa the Rapper’s Kung Fu Dojo, a wonderfully flat-looking paper thin stage complete with the presence of one Chop Chop Master Onion. A beautifully old school touch and one that had me laughing when I saw the news, thinking of the original PSone game which is still brilliant fun.
Oh, it looks like Killzone won’t be left out.
The game, and these new additions, is playable at EVO from today.

First!…I’m kidding :D
I’m really looking forward to this game! Fat Princess is OP though…beating the God of War, Kratos, at E3? :O

I’ve never really taken notice of Toro, but Heihachi is a great choice; instantly recognisable for a lot of gamers, both casual and core.
Shakugan
Lmao at Heihachi’s Ultra attack at the end and Toro’s Ultra attack is a reference from Akuma in Street Fighter, i think i’ll pre-order this soon when more interesting characters reveals :D
ProjectJAY
Good additions :D But it looks like their supers are essentially insta-kills on everybody….kinda lame :S
JBoo
Looks FUN:P + i guess(or i bet) they will do ‘DLC Characters’ after the game comes out :-/ (i HATE buying DLC(well i rarely do)but i would for this game if it’s someone i love like if Crash Bandicoot comes out later. I just pray :D that all the Characters i want are in it from day 1, i doubt it tho) + i am sure Jak&Daxter & Ratchet&Clank & Sackboy&Sackgirl(would be cool to) are in the full game because their Worlds are in some of the backgrounds(on the older videos) :P
Dr_mohannad
who’s that cat?
Kivi95
He is like a mascot for Playstation in Japan.
FigmentedReality
Just announce Cole already!!
Sympozium
Yeah I want to beat people that play him, hate him.
MadJunkBoy
looks interesting but i don’t think i will buy it… but if i were to buy it i’d go Heihachi all the way!! =D
KeRaSh
Not that psyched about having a character in the game that was taken from an actual fighting game. It just feels kind of lazy and boring. The fun thing in SSB was to see all those characters thrown into unknown territory.
Joshua Hood
Same actually – feels kind of like a cop-out.
Sympozium
Wow that cat is brutal.
