Podcast: Episode 75 – Resident Evil 6, Darksiders and Breaking Bad

Kris is still absent, with useless mobile internet connection. Broadband installation in Brighton seems to be a case of booking a date and hoping you don’t die of old age before the dude shows up to fit it. Lewis stood in as host though, and did a pretty good Kristian impression.

We talked about the Metal Gear Solid news from late last week and touched on the new God of War Ascension special editions before starting our usual weekly chat about what we’ve been up to.

I’ve played Resident Evil 6 and F1 2012. Kev has been enjoying the Plus freebie of Darksiders, as well as falling off the wagon hard and returning to his Minecraft addiction. Lewis has found time, amidst creating an iBook for his Abridged too Far God of War collection, to watch loads of Breaking Bad.

Then, of course, we did our usual quiz and user submitted questions.

  • You can send questions via email to podcasts[at]thesixthaxis.com.
  • You can also tag your questions on Twitter with #tsacast and, provided you’re not on a private account, we’ll see them in our search each week. Finally, as usual, there’s a questions thread in the forum.

This podcast features strong language, jokes in poor taste and adult themes, if you’re offended by that then we recommend that you don’t listen to it at all.

  • As usual, you can grab the MP3 file here (right click to download).
  • You might want to get it (when the RSS catches us) on the RSS feed, here.
  • Or we’re on iTunes, when iTunes feels like updating. You can also leave us a review and subscribe there, if you want to be particularly lovely.

  1. Hell yeah bitch!

  2. i’ve seen Double Dragon, i’ve got it on dvd, AND I’M NOT ASHAMED.

but yeah, it’s not great, the soundtrack is pretty good though, and it does have Alyssa Milano in it.

one thing though, in Resident Evil 6, can you shoot while moving?

you see why i’ve said games like Darksiders have what i call, the nintendo.

Death also had a raven called Quoth as well.
i wonder how many people will get where that comes from.

you think they’re stretching out Breaking Bad, what about Prison Break?
they break out at the end of the first season, from what i understand, yet there were two or three more seasons. o_O

Karl Urban was also in the Doom movie, though you may not have watched that.
he did have the worlds worst haircut in Chronicles of Riddick, and apparently he’s also in the new Riddick film that’s being filmed now.
no word on the haircut’s involvement yet. ^_^

dang, a Touch of Cloth sounds right up my street, but i don’t get sky.

i’ve never had a Minecraft relapse, you have to stop to relapse.
    welcome back Kev. ^_^

there is a way to win Minecraft now, you have to kill some Endermen to get their pearls, then i think you go to the nether to get some blaze rods and make an eye of ender, you can then throw that into the air and it will head towards a stronghold, in there you’ll find an end portal.
and the blocks around the portal will need eyes of ender to power them.
then they open a portal to the end dimension where you have to kill a dragon, then you get the ending.
of course the dragons get healed by these towers which you have to destroy, of course there are loads of endermen attacking you and the dragon will also attack you while you’re trying to do this.

oh and once you go to the end, there are only two ways out, finish the game or die.

    anyway.
i got 8 on the quiz, i would have got 9 but i though you said “what does a what bring to a gunfight”
i got 7 questions right and then i figured out the connection.
though i didn’t know Die Hard was based on a book.

    can i have Ellen White?
    she plays for England.
i’d settle for her making me some tea and the two of us having a kickabout every so often.

i saw Total Recall the other day, it was pretty good.
they had a few nods towards the original, but there was still a lot of good stuff in it.

and i don’t know if all remakes are bad, John Carpenter’s The Thing was a remake.
and i reckon Urban’s film will be a much better Dredd than Stallone’s.

Children of Men was written by P.D. James, the author who usually writes crime novels.
it’s also one of my favourite films.

    • Death’s Raven isn’t a raven, its a crow and its called Dust instead of Quoth

    • Wow.
Yes, you can walk and aim in Resi 6.
“Qouth the raven, ‘Nevermore'”, from Poe’s poem The Raven. One of my favourites.

      I love your podcast replies.

      • thanks, i never actually intend to make my replies that long, i just write bits as i’m listening to the podcast, and usually playing Minecraft, and it sorts of builds up.

and that’s good to hear about Resident Evil.
if they’re going the action route that’s down to them but at least now they’re doing it properly it seems, making you stand still to shoot, while the zombie hordes approach, didn’t really fit in an action game.
        i thought anyway.

The Raven is a great piece, i’ve heard some great readings of it, James Earle Jones, Christopher Walken, and John De Lancie did a great reading.

is it bad that i only really became aware of the poem because of the Simpsons? ^_^

  3. ok that Darksiders comment didn’t get finished.
what i meant to say was it had what i call the classic Nintendo gameplay.
which is where you get new abilities or tools that open up new areas of maps you’ve already visited.

it’s the gameplay you expect from some classic nintendo games.

    • and that was meant to be a reply. >_<

  4. Breaking Bad is kind of amazing. Only just found and finished the first four series on netflix. Best way I can describe it is as a televised Coen Brothers Film. Has a really similar tone in terms of violence, tension, humour, pacing and cinematography as Fargo or No Country For Old Men.

    • And the acting is utterly top notch throughout the cast.

  5. Aaron Paul was in the “Thoughtless” music video by Korn.

  6. Breaking Bad is the best TV show ever!

And I’ve watched a lot of TV series, including The Wire and The Sopranos.
