Ah, so after all the back and forth discussion over the last few weeks and months about Gran Turismo 6 being a PlayStation 3 exclusive and never appearing on the PS4, studio director and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has tonight put the cat among the pigeons.
“We actually do have a PlayStation 4 version in mind,” he said, speaking to IGN from Silverstone where the game was revealed for PS3 this evening, “but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on PS3 for now.”
Previously it was assumed that the game would only be for PS3, not least because it would surely bite into DriveClub’s chance of success on the platform. Now though? Well, who knows?
“I thought the best scenario would be to have the game come out, then to have new scenarios and new DLC,” said Yamauchi. “Once the players have thoroughly played out the system, if the PS4 version came out naturally, as part of that process, I think that would be the best scenario.”
Yamauchi also said that progress would “probably” copy over from PS3 to PS4.

Quelle surprise! /s
Basically they found a strategy to sell the same game twice.
I’ll wait for the PS4 version then.

I was actually shocked they let the cat out the bag this soon.
Wasn’t not knowing the main selling point for a PS3 purchase?

It seems like they’re intending the shift from PS3 to PS4 to be really easy, not having to deal with a big jump but take it on incredimentally if that makes sense. It’ll be years yet before GT appears on PS4, Sony shouldn’t be shooting Drive Club in the foot.

Biting into DriveClub’s chance of success is not really for Polyphony to worry about. It would be nice for the game to do well, but they’re in competition with all other games out there, and they make games of the same genre as Polyphony so they’re going to have to compete.
It can only be a good thing for gamers to have the choice between the two, I mean hey, there are lots of people who don’t like GT games.

Also, what if DriveClub doesn’t turn out to be the game we hope it’s going to be? Then there won’t be a decent racer on the PS4.

Maybe they’ve developed the ps4 version along side at a request of Sony in case drive club doesn’t do that well. Back up plans and all that.

I might hold off until it hits PS4 then, unless it’s far down the line.

“No way there’s a PS4 version. They’ve already marginalised DriveClub.” ~ nofi
That’s the last time I come to you for lottery numbers! :-P

Pachter I’m not.

What do we call this game?
I win.

To be fair I was tipping a simultaneous release, but I’ll take this.

Judging by your accuracy I’d say you could give him a good run for his money :)

Looks like I’ll be waiting for GT6, any game that comes to both system I’d much rather have the PS4 version.

“PlayStation 4 version in mind” – we’ll sell you a copy on PS4 after you’ve all bought a copy for PS3 and Drive Club for PS4. About February then.

I expected a PS4 version. Assets (new tracks and premium cars) are good enough, and the PS3 photomode is an indicator of what we may see running real-time on PS4.

PSP garage No.2 ?
I don’t mind, I’m looking forward to GT6 for the PS3 this year, and if it happens to release on PS4 as an enhanced version then I’ll get that too……reminds me of the Amiga 1200 getting AGA 32bit versions of Amiga 5/600 games. :P

His last quote suggests it will be a while before we see it on the PS4, it makes sense for them to maximise profit from the PS3 version before releasing the PS4 one.
Jas-n
Well the previous game doesn’t fund the next one that fast :P.
