Speaking in a recent interview at E3 last week [via], Xbox mouthpiece Major Nelson has said that Microsoft won’t be changing anything about the Xbox One in reaction to the sort of things Sony are doing with the PlayStation 4.
“I don’t think, I mean we’re really not going to change anything we’ve done with Xbox One” said Major Nelson, real name Larry Hryb. “We’re very happy, did you see the games on stage during our briefing? Did you see the exclusives?”
“I mean we’re really really proud of the system and the games that are coming out. When you look at games like TitanFall – have you gone through Titanfall yet? Enough said. Conversation over.”
TitanFall is console exclusive to Xbox consoles, at least for now.
“We’re really happy with what we showed on stage as well as what we’re showing here in the booth so I think it is uh, it’s safe to say that we’re confident where we’re going.”
“We’re also confident that gamers are going to love our vision of the future and what we’re going to offer for gaming,” Hryb added. Microsoft have been widely criticised by gamers and writers alike after their restrictive DRM policies – the console must be connected to the web once a day and game sales and rentals are massively cut back.
Sony have said that their DRM with the PS4 will remain as it is with PS3.

I genuinely think they have misjudged this more than they realise.
My Mum, who has very little knowledge of gaming, yesterday said she’d seen about the new consoles on BBC. “X Box has to be on the internet and won’t let you share your games. Playstation doesn’t need the internet and you can do whatever you like with your games.”
Word about their restrictive policies is spreading far beyond the gaming community. If enough parents, who would be purchasing for their kids, hear about this it could put a proper dent in their sales.

I’ve ‘been through’ the video of TitanFall, several times, along with the Halo teaser, Forza whatver the number was and pretty much everything else you had to show MS and it’s just left me thinking your up a proverbial creek, missing a proverbial paddle here.
See, here’s the thing MS, for a console that’s basically just a load of PC components and and O/S in a dull looking box, i was expecting you to be showing me some honest to god Xbox One footage, you know kinda bringing home the mesage of just how easy it is to get fantastic looking games running on the hardware. You’ve made plenty of claims about Halo 5 for example:1080P, 60 FPS, yet the trailer was’nt in-game and ran at 30 FPS.Where was console version of BF4?.
If your expecting to see Xbox One to existing owners like myself, looks like you’ve a mountain to climb and you guys are still sat on the tour bus, let alone begun the climb.I carried out the ‘works test’ basically ask all the people at work who are 360 owners, indeed 360 was 1st console they’d ever bought, be it for themselves or for the kids, if they were going to buy MS new offering…..
Results just in-Everyone said NO (ok only 8 people but….) reasons being:Kids do fine with existing console+Kinect, new console a ‘step too far’ (DRM, needing to sign in every 24 hrs), does’nt seem to do anything 360 does’nt…where are the games?, why do MS want me to stop buying used games? etc etc.Lot of confusion, boredom and anger it seems.
It’s 1 thing to test a customers loyalty as they go through their 3rd or 4th console due to Red Ring or E74, but when they built up a huge games collection, play online with friends daily, they’ll go through hell for you, but you’ve got to get them onboard to start with MS, here? looks like your birds flown the coop…

Only Dead Rising 3 Looked Interesting for me….MS Downfall Is Sonys gain

The guy’s an arsehole IMO. If Microsoft trully believe that all their policies are gonna be welcomed with open arms, then they definitely need to start replacing their staff (from the top down).
As for the amount of non-core gamers getting to know about the mad policies of the nextbox, my nephew and all the other pupils at his school know about it, as a result, so do the parents, so I can’t see many nextboxes being bought in my area at least.
Game, Set & Match Sony (IMO) :p

Ive got the luxury of both consoles (ps3 was given to me), 360 being my main one and as would be all my friends have 360’s and i play online dailey with them.
The problem I face (as some others must do) one or two seem to be oblivious to the consequence of what xbox1 will entail (or are raging fanboys) and one has already put a deposit down!! Now out of my group of 8 lads thats gunna rail road the others into most likely getting the xbox1.
I myself would rather give my money to sony this coming generation, but I want to be able to social with my friends through gaming. This puts me in a s**t position not sure if others are in a similar situation, but would be good to hear others views.
Internet access and sharing games is not an issue for me (im not happy about it), but the variety of games is.

In a very similar situation really. I game with a circle of 7 other people and this gen all of our multiplayer gaming has been on 360 as the PSN was pretty poor in comparison (no party chat, less reliable, etc).
6 of these are getting an X1 without question, leaving myself and one other to decide whether to get the cheaper PS4 or cough up the extra for the X1.
At the moment, X1 looks like it is going to win my vote, largely because of this “family” deal, where I can create a pool of games with my mates, giving us access to plenty of games while keeping our personal costs down.
I must admit I also much prefer the console design and trust the Xbox online service far more than the PS+ funded PSN.
The real decider for me though was when I stepped back and really looked at what I use my console for. I never play single player games any more (I watch films for story telling), so ultimately I am going to opt for the platform where I can play the likes of BF4 with a bunch of mates.
If you are mainly a single player gamer, I would say go PS4, as it is undoubtedly better value, but if you only find yourself firing up your console to play with friends, it makes sense to follow their lead :)
Hope this helps. As I say, your situation basically mirrors mine and I have been racking my brains all week over it. All of us pre-ordered the X1 today, along with Forza and Battlefield. Its going to be good :D

Get a huge bank loan and buy all your mates a PS4. :p
Seriously tho, that must be a pretty shit situation to be in. Is there no way that you can convince any of your mates to opt for PS4? I’d have thought that once 2 or 3 of your mates opt for PS4 then there’d be more chance of the others following suit.
Scotty34
Ha yea bank loans one way. I am currently trying very subtly to persuade them, its early days yet and i told them to just wait at let MS fail even more with their PR, but the mate thats already put a deposit down has thrown a spanner in the works.
I even tried to scare him off by saying you best hope game dont go under again by then! that atleast should hold the others of putting a deposit down.

Wow, this guy sounds like a dick. TitanFall was basically just Black Ops II as well.

I was wondering how Larry Hyrb would try to spin this whole mess into something positive. “When you look at games like TitanFall – have you gone through Titanfall yet? Enough said. Conversation over.” – Genius.

I know about 30 people (Thats no exagg. either) who are switching over to PS4. Thats not even to mention the people who will be buying both like myself. Its going to be interesting how MS combat the loss of sales, it seems to me they either know something we don’t or they are fatally misguided with their opinion of their product. I think it’s Microsoft’s turn to play catch-up after a generation in the lead. Sony have learn’t well from the past era of gaming whilst Microsoft have seemingly burrowed their heads in the sand. I’m devoid of words for how incredible some of the games are looking at present though. E3 showcased some true beauty such as MGS5, Destiny and Battlefield 4. I think gamings in a very positive place right now, a far cry from the last few years. No pun intended.
