What is TheSixthAxis? A gaming website? A community? An outlet for our often sadly vapid, rumbling trains of thought? We don’t really know – we never really have. Nobody put us here to change the world, nobody ever told us what was right and what was wrong, and nobody helped steer our path. We just did what we thought was right, talked about what we wanted to and got excited every time somebody dropped us a comment.
That notion, that sometimes misplaced will, has spurred us on now for over six years. For me personally, getting feedback of all kinds was a pointer that we were doing something right, and that, as a diversion, a hobby, a part-time evening job you couldn’t ever get out of, the website offered a channel for creativity and a way of communicating – or at least trying to communicate – what I (and we) thought about games.
And so, 2013 brings change to the site. There’s a new design, there’s a renewed focus on PlayStation, there’re shifts and switches in terms of those that bring you the content. Blair will be taking over editorial duties on the site, for example, and later this week Alex is disappearing to paint pretty pixels for Just Add Water. There’ll be new faces too, whom we’ll introduce gradually so as not to scare the ducks.
TheSixthAxis might be a gaming website. It might be a community. It might be an outlet for its writers. But it’s also a collection of like-minded friends, and that will continue to be the case going forward. Exciting times are ahead, and with the next generation of consoles around the corner we wanted to ensure we’re placed to continue to cover them in the way we’ve always done, but with more emphasis on videos and that all-important opinion.
So, what’s new? The video above hopefully explains what we’ve been doing for the last few weeks. We hope you enjoy it, and here’s to the next six years.
tsa.

Liking the redesign and works really well on my mobile. Shame Alex may not be around much anymore, but major congrats to Blair, another step closer to world domination

Looks great, not dis-similar to the PS4 OS.

Hmmm. Needs more Sarah Greene.

Love the mobile layout, it looks fantastic

Oh, the vertical layout reverts back to normal each time I read an article :/

This the thing I mention here, fella? Would love a proper fix for it. http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2013/07/29/introducing-your-new-tsa/comment-page-6/#comment-522837

Yup, right on the money; love that vertical layout, but it’s a shame it doesn’t stick :/
TSBonyman
Yep, vertical is the lesser evil for me too. Use tabs for now, that way you can keep the vertical page open and refresh it.
XisTG
true that :)

I’ve tried now on ipad and the mobile site won’t load there either, reverting immediately to the main site.
It loads beautifully as the mobile site on my iphone but oddly the url in the address bar changes to the main site.
I deduce from that that it’s not simply a case of directing my browser to the correct url but it is the website determining which version of the site my device can display. Can that be changed? I would very much like to be able to try the mobile site in the ps3 browser.
Blair Inglis
The mobile site is no longer tsa/i – it just does it automatically on mobile devices.
TSBonyman
Well,i guess it deduced that my ipad isn’t a ‘mobile’ device because it rarely strays too far from my coffee table! :)
I wonder though, would there be some way to program the site to recognise the PS3 as a mobile device, given how feeble the browser is – and my reluctance to stop using it :/
Alex C
Mobile device is determined by screensize – try making your desktop browser smaller to see. Can’t really force the PS3 to go mobile, does it really struggle?
TSBonyman
Yes, there’s lot’s of horrible things going on with the ps3 browser, probably best to just let it lie. So, i’ve just installed Linux Mint on an old laptop and i’ll be using that for my evening lounge through tsa in future ;)
Congrats on the new job and thanks for taking the time to come back and read through all the feedback! :)

Good shout, nice bit of overhaul and a next gen rebrand. Video made me laugh too. TSA!

Nice & fresh, unfortunately the PS3 browser (my only viable web device,) isn’t handling it so well.
(stutters, if it loads & occasionally temp freezes browser.) (I really hope the PS4, comes with an adequate browser etc.)
E8_BALL_
Certainly running smoother for me now.

I’m not really sure yet. Clean and fresh but it’ll take a little getting used to. For somewhere that prides itself on the strength of its community, it’d be nice if the comments weren’t all the way at the bottom of the page.
E8_BALL_
Screen tearing on scrolling too. Again, I know the PS3 browser isn’t up to scratch, but it did handle prev site ver, faster & smoother.

The new shiney TSA. Mmmmm, not sold on it yet. Much prefer the vertical to all the busy picture tiles but it doesn’t seem to remember the vertical when changing pages(small gripe), that said when the PSN changed its design to the tiles i wasn’t sold on that either but soon got use to it. Anyway keep up the good work guys and really glad to hear you’ll be focusing on Playstation brand going forward to the next generation and hopefully beyond. P.S. A tag at the top the page for logging in would be handy.
