You’ll only need to pay an extra £10 if you want the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts and you already own the PS3 version, in a brilliant move from Activision and Sony. In the US, that’ll only be 10 dollars and it’ll be 10 euros in European countries, too.
It seems as though they were telling the truth when they said that the games would have “substantial” digital discounts on PS4 for people who had already bought them on Sony’s current console, and it probably works out about the same as buying the PS4 version at (presumably) £55 this way, with just that £10 premium on top of your £45 purchase.
Note that this will only be available for a limited time, and that Season Pass content will transfer between systems, too. This seems like a really idea for those who were wanting Activision’s shooter on launch but were cautious about buying a current generation version with a next generation console just around the corner.
It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft introduce a similar scheme through Xbox Live, although Amazon and GameStop will also be providing ways for players to upgrade their Xbox 360 versions of CoD to Xbox One versions for just £10.
We have the best fans in the world, and we want to make this transition as seamless and easy for them as possible. And there’s more news to come on that front. Stay tuned.
So it sounds as though there could be even more on the way. While ten is the magic number for Activision, there’s no word on whether the same will ring true for Ubisoft, EA and any other partners will offer a similar discount.

Activistion deciding against ripping people off. That’s huge news.
Starman
Have they said how ownership of the current gen version is verified?

Considering it’s a digital version for the PS4, you probably need to have bought a digital version for the PS3 in the first place.
Starman
Maybe not quite as good an offer as first thought then. £70 basically and you wont be able to trade either in.

Probably a code as well that comes with the game. The code will only be eligible for use on a PS4, and you can enter it on your PS4 when you get it. Pretty simple really.
Great offer, and it will be absolutely HUGE.
Bilbo_bobbins
Can I also say EA said they will do this with BF4, but haven’t confirmed the actual additional cost yet, but said it would be heavily discounted.
sparkyscrum
Wow, when on stage they mentioned significant discount I did wonder if I could agree once pricing is announced. But this real is a significant discount.
Sony really has been working hard behind the scenes.

If you have a PS4 it seems the best thing to do would be to buy the PS3 version, get the digital version on PS4 for 10.00 EUR then trade in the PS3 disc version (since there’s probably no need to have both versions, and you get to keep the “superior” version). And assuming you don’t mind only having the digital version.

Yeah, probably, was just a thought ;)
Bilbo_bobbins
wouldn’t mind a clarification on that though, they haven’t actually said that.

I would expect you have to buy the digital versions to get the upgrade, in which case I’d rather wait and have a trade-inable copy of the game.
Excellent offer for people who want the digital copies though.
Possible market for retailers to offer a similar trade in deal.

I’m also thinking that this will only apply to downloaded versions of the game only. This way Acti and Sony can maintain the usual high download price for the PS3 and trade-off that price against a loss when someone upgrades to the PS4 version. This way their books are balanced.

£10 makes it very tempting

£10 $10 10 Euros, anyone see a problem here? Its still cheap, but once again more expensive for us Brits than anywhere else.

It’s always like this on every plattform.
Kivi95
Missed the £. Yeah should have been maybe £8 but not really that big deal.

Awesome stuff. I’ll probably just hold out for the next-gen release. Despite the colossal HDD size, I’d rather not clog it up within a month of the PS4’s launch.

Very huge stuff for Sony to pull.
