Evolution Studios Give More Details On DriveClub

DriveClub is shaping up to be one of the launch titles I’m personally looking forward to, and the fact it will be included as part of the PlayStation Plus collection from launch is great. We already know it won’t be the full game, with some tracks and cars absent from the PS+ edition, but that won’t stop you completing the game fully.

In a post on NeoGAF, Evolution Studios gave some extra information on the PS+ version of DriveClub. Some of the major points include that you will be able to earn the Platinum trophy without upgrading to the full retail version, though there will be a discount to upgrade to the complete version. A price for that will be announced in a few weeks.

There will be no local split screen multiplayer in DriveClub, which is unfortunate as I love local multiplayer. Evolution are also working on a photo mode so you can capture images and upload them, though details are scarce on how it will be implemented.

In game wise the rearview mirrors will only show the environment and not the car interior as well, which will give players a better view of what’s going on behind them.  The footage we’ve seen so far has also been uncompressed, but when footage is uploaded from the PS4 there will be some compression.

  1. It seems so far that they’re being forced to rush this out for launch. 30fps, lack of split screen and just general bits sound a bit worrying.

    • Not sure why it would seem that way. 30 fps often is a design choice and according to them there was/is an internal debate about this going on.
Some want 60 fps, some want a shiny game with many details.
DriveClub does shift slightly towards the arcade side of racers so the lack of 60 fps isn’t really a deal breaker for me. I want the game to really show off what the PS4 can do and still be fun to play.
I can also undestand why there is no split screen support with the heavy online integration they are going for. They want you to compete online club vs club, not you against your friend on the couch.

    • Definitely, it’s like they’re taking short-cuts wherever they can to hit the release.

  2. Is the lack of split screen in the whole thing or just the Plus version?

    • Whole game. PS+ edition. is the full-featured game there’s just less cars and tracks.

  3. I WAS looking forward to this but the more I hear, the less I’m interested to be honest. They say working on in game screen shots? What’s the point when you can have 7 mins of play at a touch of a button?

    • Post processing to make the shots more detailed? Custom camera angles?

  4. Still got this on pre-order even though I’m a Pluser, waiting to see if it’s cheaper to upgrade or buy the full game with free 90 day PS+.

    • I also have this preordered with my PS4 bundle from Game and when i asked on the DriveClub facebook page they said this:
Leigh Bartram Is there alot of difference between the PS+ version and retail. I have preordered the PS4 bundle which has DriveClub with it but just wondering being a PS+ subscriber if it was worth paying the extra for my retail version.

Driveclub You will get a lot more cars and more tracks to play with with your pre-ordered copy. You will also get a voucher for the PS+ special offer. Details –> http://blog.eu.playstation.com/…/
reading on the Playstation blog you also get a voucher for 50% off 12 month Playstation plus

  5. I’m just glad to know the Platinum is achievable without having to pay a single penny. Great news for those of us OCD enough to not want to touch a game unless it can be completed by buying the minimum amount possible. *Shakes fist at DLC*
