Microsoft Delay Xbox One Headset Adapter

An adapter required to use new third-party headsets on the Xbox One has been delayed until early 2014.

The hardware, which would have also allowed the use of Xbox 360 headsets on the new console, was confirmed by peripheral manufacturer Turtle Beach.

“Turtle Beach expects to launch the XO FOUR and XO SEVEN headsets for the Xbox One console in the first quarter of 2014.The Xbox One Headset Adapter, being built by Microsoft and provided to Turtle Beach for inclusion with new gaming headsets, will not be available until early 2014.”

It seems rather odd that an adapter will be required for new headsets, but that does seem to be the case. However, the Xbox One will ship with a basic headset in the box which should tide over gamers until the hardware is ready.

  1. How odd that both Sony and Microsoft are having “issues” with headsets.

  2. Makes sense to standardise it all I suppose. Will stick with Microsoft’s ‘meh’ freebie headset on launch day and will grab the adapter to use with my X12’s in the new year.

  3. MS only announced the adapter when the community kicked up a stink. The fact that this is delayed suggests to me that they were never going to make one and just knee-jerked a “there’s an adapter” response just to plicate the masses.

It’s not a complicated thing, it just doesn’t exist yet…

  4. That’s one way to ‘encourage’ people with older headsets to upgrade.

  5. With so many delays for next gen features I think #waitforit should be the new motto.

  6. I have the Turtle Beach PX3 wireless headset, does anyone know if it will work on the PS4? Would hate to find out if i had to replace them, they were dear enough after all and I have them almost a year only.

    • No according to:

I’ve got a PX5 and I think the audio (via optical) will be fine, just the chat that uses bluetooth that won’t work. Hopefully they will be able to implement a solution (whatever the problem is) via a patch.
