How To Upgrade Your PS4 Hard Disk [Video]

This process is shockingly easy. It was very simple to swap out the hard disk on a PlayStation 3 but there were a couple of awkward stumbling blocks. The PlayStation 4 has none of that, this process is as easy as it could possibly be. That’s good because, thanks to the totally expected collapse of the PSN under heavy load, this is the only thing my PS4 has done so far.

  1. This is the first thing I did after my PS4 was delivered lunch time. Really easy.
I just wish the wi-if connection was a simple, I’m having to use an ethernet cable at the moment.

  2. Funny video! Good to see it’s a piece of piss to do. I thought the PS3 was easy, so shouldn’t have any problems. While we’re here, can I request links to best price hdd upgrades please?! Saaaaaaafe!

  3. Magnificent video :-)

  4. HAH! The ending made me giggle a bit. :D
    Nice video Peter.
I WANT MY PS4 NOW! But I might have to wait until january to get my hands on one. Why didn’t I preorder back in february?! Stupid past me! :(

    • I ordered mine yesterday. It arrived today.

      • Everywhere in Sweden it says that the next batch will arrive January-February. :(

  5. Bookmarked this & Amazon link. Thanks Peter, a great help.

  6. Lovely video. Especially the extra “advice” at the end. :-)

  7. Nice vid
Was waiting for a 2TB drive before upgrading though, where was the 1.5TB max mentioned?

Sent from my Sony PS4 ;)

    • Oooo… Look at you! ;-)

    • 1.5 TB limit was mentioned in the big FAQ on the PSblog, I think. Hopefully they’ll increase that via firmware soon enough, it’s going to fill up fast!

  8. LOL at the end bit.

  9. Just thought, you could then use your 500gb PS4 HDD to upgrade your PS3, if you haven’t done so already.

  10. hi guys I know this might be a noob question but do you need to get the new HDD ready for the ps4 or is it as simple as just slipping the new one in and your ready to go.

    • Just as it was in the video mate, opened the packet and stuck the hdd in, then you need the firmware on a USB stick or drive and the PS4 installs firmware and updates from that.
