Community Round-Up: 08/02/14

This time around, I seem to be battling a few technical issues which are making my life difficult, but we’ll soldier on as I take a shot at this week’s Community Round-Up!

Our second competition, as part of the Plus Point Challenge, is a nice and easy caption competition for Don’t Starve. You’ve got another two weeks to get your entries in, so that’s plenty of time to get your creative juices flowing! Even if you don’t think your idea is very good, it’s still worth entering as there’ll be a lucky dip for someone to win an extra 5 points.

Looking at the meets, tomorrow sees Kitch’s Warframe meet at 8pm, and the GT6 Monday meet will be ongoing as usual.

And as always, you can add your own Meet to the list, providing you’ve got more than 250 TSA Points.

We’ll start off this week with Stefan’s hardware review of the new PS Vita Slim, which he balances the better battery life and improved ergonomics against the poorer screen and high price point. The software reviews then saw Greg gave a solid 8/10 to Surge Deluxe, while Blair looked at The Wolf Among Us: Episode 2 – Smoke & Mirrors, giving it a 7/10.

Both Previews this week were for PC, with Stefan first looking at Blood Bowl 2, a rendition of the classic Games Workshop board game. Next, he attempted to break out of Alcatraz in the point and click game.

The incredibly addictive Flappy Bird flew in on Mobile Watch with Jim, while Indie Focus had a bumper week with Race The Sun and Eryi’s Action coming thanks to Gamoc and Aran respectively.

Jim then returned as Binary Domain featured in PlayBack, while Aran looked at Portal in a different light in Matter of Perspective.

Looking at the Community articles, Metro: Last Light had a quiet but favourable WeView Verdict, as David Cage’s Beyond: Two Souls takes its place in the chair. The Chronicle launched the new 2014 Trophies Leaderboard, while there were some slightly predictable results from the Cross Buy Poll.

What We Played hit number #142 thanks to Greg, while the Podcast reached Episode 128 as we round off the articles.

Finishing off the Round-Up in the usual way, let’s take a look at the Forums:

Looks like my GPU held up under the pressure of rendering web pages and TSA is still running, so if that isn’t a success, I don’t know what is!

I hope you all have a good week and I’ll see you next time. Bye!

  1. Thanks for the Modnation Road Trip mention, although it’s more of a ‘feelers out’ to see if there’s any interest rather than a plea for help. I don’t think too many people will be all that bothered due to those two cooking funt Ad-Hoc trophies required for platinum. ;)

  2. We now have 4 members in our Warframe clan but we’re recruiting and getting better. Give me a shout if you play and need a bit of help.

  3. I think I’m with a few other members in saying that I don’t see why the competition challenges can’t be extended to platforms like Vita and Steam that have screenshot capabilities. At the least there is the Plus content for Vita which can be used in all sorts of challenges, especially stuff like Modnation Racers. If Vita was included, that would give increased chance of people being able to take part in the TSA community.

    • Don’t quote me on it, but I think you could use the PC version of Don’t Starve for this comp.
But I agree with you, as someone without PS+ or even a PS4, I’m feeling a bit left out!

      • Yes we did say there’s no reason you can’t submit a pc screenshot for the don’t starve comp.

    • If it’s across multiple platforms then it’s going to limit the number of entrants to those with all platforms – very few people. Keeping it to one platform maintains consistency.
It’d be impossible to schedule across loads of different platforms. Keeping it to the ps+ content on ps4 at least means that those who entered in the 1st week know they’ll be able to enter every week.

      • Still don’t see what’s wrong with implementing PS Plus content from Vita. There could be 2 separate challenges, or instead an exclusive choice between a PS4 entry and a Vita entry. Either one is not difficult to do when you keep track of the information correctly.

  4. Submitted my caption, looking forward to seeing what other people come up with. So many possibilities!
