Ubisoft To Possibly Base Far Cry 4 Setting In The Himalayas

The good ship Ubisoft appears to be leaking quite badly recently, first courtesy of an insider releasing details about Assassin’s Creed: Unity which the publisher confirmed as real. Now a new unnamed informer has sprung up and spoken to Eurogamer about Far Cry 4, which will apparently be set somewhere along the Himalayas and that only PS4, Xbox One and PC versions have yet been mentioned, though that doesn’t mean the last gen will miss out.

There’s no indication as to where along the 1,500 mile mountain range the game will take place with possibilities being Nepal, India, Bhutan, China, Afghanistan or Pakistan though at least a few of those could hold some very interesting scenarios. I’d personally bet on Nepal because Mount Everest makes up a part of its border, and could you imagine trying to climb up that by pressing the jump button over and over? Apparently there will be ridable elephants and outposts will make a return, so taking over those places with an elephant rampage could be possible. There could potentially be monsters too, which I assume will be a family of yetis because if you’re going to set a game in the Himalayas with monsters then you need them.

According to the informer Far Cry 4 will be shown at E3 and apparently will be released before March 2015. Of course treat all of this as rumour at the minute as Ubisoft themselves have declined to comment about the information here, but a Himalayas could be pretty interesting.

  1. This was confirmed by a tweet earlier. I think. I’ll find it.

  2. Sounds good to me. Farcry 3 was/is brilliant.

  3. I think this will be my turning point to get a PS4.

  4. How are they going to put borders on the map though? I mean far cry 3 was set on an island do had natural borders, how will that work on 4?
Still this is a must buy, number 3 was one of my favourite games of last gen.

    • Good point – I guess they’ll have to resort to the unclimbable cliff or death-drop crevasse to keep the player penned in. If the do it right it could be ok – we’ll have to see.

  5. It’s going to need some great character writing to live up to FC3 – I don’t think I’ve ever played a game with a character quite like Vaas, the scripting and mo-cap was simply astonishing.
