Community Chronicle: 20/07/14

If you saw the Round Up yesterday, you will know that Teflon and I have done the ol’ switcheroo, as I had a bit of a busy week Graduating and other real life stuff. Not only has it been a busy week for me in that respect, but the recent weather has caused a few issues too. The insane lightning storm we had on Thursday night managed to fry our phone, TV box, aerial and, worst of all, the internet router! So I spent a bit of time yesterday either getting replacements or working out what I need to go out and get, which also includes a few more surge protected extension cables!

Meanwhile in the world of gaming, Sony announced a few more details about the upcoming The Last of Us Remastered release. The game will include a Photo Mode, in similar vein to inFamous Second Son, and will also feature a 30fps lock option for those that prefer that to 60fps. Some people inferred from this that that the game won’t run at a constant 60fps, dropping in places, and so the lock option was a good addition, especially “for those people that really ‘feel’ the sharp frames-per-second drop in games”, as bunimomike suggests.

The announcement also brought news that while there is no upgrade discount for existing PS3 owners, the game will feature cross-buy for the add-ons between PS3 and PS4, as well as the map packs already bundled with the game. This pleased Youles, who owns all the extra DLC such as guns and cosmetic items, and who’s also looking forward to the future DLC, which he hopes will be a “small SP add on with another character” rather than more multiplayer goodies.

Just one of Microsoft’s big announcements this week was that things were starting to look up for the Xbox One. Sales for June were double those of May in North America, mostly thanks to the Kinect-less console bringing it down to a more palatable $399. beeje13 suggested “Kinect was bad PR baggage, even if it is technically good”, while JR. points out that this news may not be as impressive as it first appears. Suggesting that the console sold “hardly anything” in May due to the Kinect-less announcement, “double of hardly anything isn’t that great to be honest”, which was backed up by TSBonyman who said he “expected more than double.”

This news was further devalued by the release of the June NPD Results.  For the sixth straight month, the PS4 outsold the Xbox One, despite the the newer and lower price. camdaz reckons “Sony must be over the moon that they’re still out selling the XBO, even with the cheaper price, in MS’s homeland”, which equally must be a bitter blow to Microsoft, after a strong E3 and when things were starting to look better for their console.

On a more positive note, it was revealed that $736.4 million was spent on video game products in North America in June, which is quite impressive considering the release schedule hasn’t exactly been jam packed recently, although hardware sales are sure to make up a significant amount of that figure.

Destiny’s Beta seems to have been taking up a lot of people’s time this week, although there’s still been plenty of action for our dedicated trophy hunters!

element666 ended his Platinum drought in style, earning a hugely impressive 4 this week! They include Sly Cooper Thieves in Time (PS3 & Vita), LEGO Lord of the Rings, and LEGO Batman 2. Blast71 should also be commended for his dedication (or perhaps laziness?) after taking 16 months to plat inFAMOUS 2. I do hope that wasn’t the only game he played for the last year and a half!

Keen trophy hunter Crazy_Del recently platinumed Wolfenstein: The New Order and Sniper Elite III with the help of Harm_Rehal, who’s also close to earning the silverware.

R1MJAW is edging nearer to the WRC4 Platinum after finishing off the career mode, and he’s also been helping out Forest_01 who’s aiming to add Skate 2 to his trophy cupboard.

And lastly, a few people have been mentioning Doki Doki Universe, with Lyts1985 earning 100% trophy completion, while others are still plodding away at it.

A inferior race has been busily tapping your latest trophies into his tables, and you can head over to page 2 to view the latest 2014 leaderboards.

  1. Thanks for the mention gaz, and no, it isn’t the only game I’ve played this year, just the only one I’ve managed to platinum. It’s special because it’s only my fifth platinum :)

  2. Good job with the chronicle gazza, although I’m certain that tef would have made some reference to this weeks Hockenheim Formula one grand prix race….likely Hamilton and his disastrous qualifying sesh, later redeemed by a great race result :P ;)

    • To be fair, Gazza was struck by lightning (well, his router, phone and TV boxes were anyway), so didn’t get to see the qualifying yesterday. He’s a bigger F1 nut than I am by quite a distance, but wasn’t able to watch the qualifying yesterday and desperately tried to avoid spoiling it for himself.

      • I know, I couldn’t catch up on Quali until this morning because iPlayer was down for so long :(
Was quite a interesting race, banning FRIC certainly seems to have levelled the playing field a tad and the cooler conditions definitely messed up a lot of people’s set ups.

      • Yeah, I just thought I’d add that tidbit of info as an extra snippet in lieu of of tef’s absence and gazza’s unfortunate dalliance with the billion Volt light sabre! ;)

  3. Great work with the leaderboads as always AIR.

I think I was 60+ when I joined, so I’m pretty pleased with 17th, and my plat-trophy total ratio is still pretty good.
