Driveclub Update: Friendly Leaderboards Up, Connectivity Improving

Another day and another update to the continuing Driveclub launch saga, in which the online has been suffering since day one. Today Evolution have offered more information this time stating that more players should be able to connect, and online friendly leaderboards are live. , There is still no update on the PS Plus edition. As always the full statement from Evolution can be read below. Hopefully by in the next couple of days everything will be functioning.

After more successful upgrades and updates to the servers today, performance continues to improve and more of you will be able to play online together.

We’re still working, and will be around the clock, to keep improving social connectivity and online play, and we are pleased to say we have also added in friendly leaderboards now.

We will have info about more updates to the game and the servers soon. In the mean time, while this work continues, we are also paying attention to all of the feedback and comments you’re sharing with us too – so please keep sharing so that we can keep improving the game and giving you more to play for.

  1. This was a lesson for me, and it cost me £35 to find out that this sort of hype from Sony can sod off. All I wanted was a great racing game on PS4 – and they made Driveclub sound like it was going to be that game. If I could claim a refund I would, but they clearly stated no refunds can be sort after when making the pre-order on PSN.
The AI is crap, the selection of cars in bare bones (but I can pay for more), the visuals are nice but no nicer than the competition, and it was released half baked.
Thank goodness they are working hard on improving it, but for me the damage has been done and this whole release fell flat on its face. Forza Horizon 2 and Forza 5 shall cater nicely for my racing fix until and beyond Project Cars (looking good). I honestly don’t get how Sony / Evolution have got away with all this, and I am so disappointed after Motorstorm RC put the studio right up in my top 5 devs.

    • Shame you feel that way as i’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment of DriveClub’s racing,id definitely say it’s my favourite racer of it’s type Forza just sat on my shelf gathering dust for months, granted the online isn’t there fully yet but when it has been running they have been some of the most enjoyable races i’ve had, when the online is 100% and the updates for weather and wot not roll out DC will only get better ;)

    • Perspective: No one purposely releases a poor product but sometimes the sh*t hits the fan and problems can happen at the launch of any game. Evo are a great dev and should continue to be seen that way, even after all the problems. After all it is the server software code that’s having issues, not the games code.

I get the online side is busted for many right now but it shouldn’t detract from the fact DC is a great pure racing game. I have no issues with the AI like some, if I get rammed its because I messed up and cut into a driving line. No problem with that here, just hit restart and your good to go again in seconds. I wonder if people complaining about it have spent much time learning the game and have unlocked the later events and cars because it gets better the more you put into it. Most races are so adrenaline fuelled I cant help smiling while punching the throttle to the max.

Have other racers/devs in the past had this much hate directed at the AI because I don’t remember seeing anything to this extent? Some of the stuff I’ve read (here and elsewhere) is just pure ranting without much justification imo.

      • I put many hours into it, and agree the later races get better but mostly found enjoyment in the hotlap / timed events (point to point through Scotland is great). But it just doesn’t click with me and I wish I hadn’t spent the money. I actually would rather play Forza, Gran-Turismo, Need for Speed Shift and / or GRiD. However, they are obviously not direct comparisons as Driveclub is a pure racer. I have just found it all over-hyped and broken on release, but glad there are others enjoying it as that will encourage Evolution to polish it and I may return one day.

      • The AI is a bit of a mixed bag. No actually as I rethink it the AI is actually good, the system in place for penalising you is unfair though.

As a point in case I have often raced 2 laps cleanly and then clipped someone to get the last lap advantage only for that car to recover from the crash, Battle back through the pack and then obviously ram me at the earliest opportunity. It’s feels vindictive, which is good. Reap what you sew.

On the flip side though there are too many instances of me being punished when a car drives into me. I can hold the racing line, brake late and get on the apex and still get bummed by a Bentley only to get -200 points or worse a collision penalty of reduced speed for a few seconds. Don’t they know how it works in the UK?

They’re lucky I don’t slap a whiplash claim in as well as gnashing at my joypad rubber nubbies!

Got a bit of online in yesterday and it was fun but as the curtain rose on USA at about 1pm GOT you could just feel the servers moaning before PLOP! Out you go son, back on Destiny :)

        Grrr. Evolution Studios. Meh.

  2. Well good news Ward and I played team racing last night well 1:45am until 3:15am, what a sesh we had and never lost a match as a team! There were some dirty racing, but we also had a few clean racers aswell. I hope it is up and running today and I’ll be joining soon after lunch.

    • I heard they where amazing in a BAC Mono 1,2 podium finish,i heard some say there the best others say there the greatest ;D

      • That is how legends are made *drives off 180mph….. *crash* ouch.

      • The Mono is good I raced in a loan car yesterday. The Pagani Huarayayahahahahahaha is my fave tho. It’s beast.

      • I unlocked he BAC Mono yesterday, that batboy can get round whatever corner you throw at it. I did enter a race with that and the Ariel Atom to choose from yesterday, and although I thought the Mono has better cornering and top speed the top six cars that finished were Atom’s and the bottom six (including me) were Mono’s.
I’m getting more into the game the more I play it.

      • Batboy???? Badboy!

  3. No doubt that Driveclub is good fun to play. but it doesn’t make up for half the game still not working a week after launch. An unpleasant experience #4theplayers.
