Assassin’s Creed Unity Season Pass Pulled As Ubisoft Offers Compensation

As a way of apologising for the poor state of Assassin’s Creed Unity at launch, Ubisoft have embarked on a fairly major round of compensation for those that have bought the game, and additionally to those that bought the season pass.

Writing on the Assassin’s Creed bug tracking blog, Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto CEO Yannis Mallat said:

Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues. I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.

We’ve been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them. Today, we’re releasing our third patch, which fixes a variety of specific issues related to the game’s stability and performance, matchmaking and connectivity, gameplay and menus. You can find the release notes on that patch here: Patch 3 Notes

Continuing, he then announced that to show their appreciation for those that did buy the game, the upcoming Dead Kings DLC would be made free to all those with the game. Season pass holders will still get the other planned content, such as Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, but will additionally be given the choice of a free copy of the following Ubisoft games:

  • The Crew
  • Far Cry 4
  • Watch Dogs
  • Assassin’s Creed Black Flag
  • Rayman Legends
  • Just Dance 2015

Details of how to claim your free game will be made clear soon, and you can read more about this in the FAQ that Ubisoft have posted, but the season pass has now been removed from sale (despite still having a listing on the PSN store), presumably to prevent abusing this system. After all, they don’t want to let everyone get Far Cry 4 for £23.99, just the people that deserve it.

With Ubisoft still grappling with making Assassin’s Creed Unity fit for purpose after a difficult launch, it’s good to see that they are very aware of the negative impact that this has had within their fanbase and are trying to make things right.

  1. Despite how much I’ve ripped into Ubisoft for their poor practices lately, which still stand, this is an incredibly nice gesture on their behalf and is one of the times they’ve positively surprised me in a long time. I’d not expect to see this level of good faith from them lately. Part of me wonders whether the genuine bad quality and management of ACU has lead to some management reshuffles. As some have said, I hope the recent negative attention forces ubi and the rest to reconsider their launch methods in future. But right now, good on them.

  2. Looks like i’m getting the crew then. awesome
