I’m back for another week of the Chronicle as I had my work Christmas party the other day, so was in no fit state to write the Round Up. Thankfully my dignity is still intact, which is more than can be said for my liver!
Let’s begin Hot Topics with the news we learnt on Tuesday, that the next Assassin’s Creed will be called Victory. Set in victorian London, it’s an era many fans have been hoping for: “Hyped. Been hoping for a Victorian London AC game for ages. Love it.” says tactical20, while this is exactly what Dan has been waiting for, as he said, “’I’ll be returning to the series next year then, been hoping for this setting for quite some time.”
Obviously, not everyone was enthralled to hear news of a sequel so soon, with Crazy_Del suggesting that “Ubi has got to give the franchise a breathing room!” and Lyts1985 saying that “they’re content to milk it for all it’s worth to ensure there’s a new AC game on the shelves every Xmas.”
Personally, I think people need to remember that this was not an announcement, but a leak; Ubisoft weren’t meaning for this information to be out so soon. And I don’t think anyone can be surprised that Ubisoft are already working on the next game, as AAA games take years to make.
Bunimomike waded in, asking if Ubisoft will “do as they’ve mentioned and slow down with the release to make sure the game is up to scratch. I’d be happy with a release every eighteen months to be honest”. With The Division and Rainbow Six Siege already set for next year, perhaps we won’t actually see Victory in 2015, since Ubisoft haven’t confirmed anything about it.
Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that whenever we do see it on the shelves, it’s a bit more complete than Unity!
To celebrate PlayStation’s 20th anniversary, Sony announced a limited edition PS4 in a grey colour scheme similar to that of the original console. Voolar called the console “utterly stunning”, while SamBeThyName declared: “I don’t normally go in for this kind of thing, but this is the [wotsits]”, both sentiments of which were pretty much echoed throughout the comments.
3shirts chipped in with an interesting point
Apart form the coloured badge (which I’m sure you could buy). This wouldn’t be that difficult to do with some rattle cans.
I sprayed my PS2 and controllers silver back in the day and it looked lovely, really worked well. Just needs careful dismantling and masking
Do we have any readers hear brave enough or artistic enough to try this themselves? Alternatively, there’s plenty of console skins out there and I’m sure it won’t take long for some similar ones to appear, although I know it won’t be the same as having the limited edition console itself. We’ll just have to wait and see how we can get our hands on one, as they won’t be available from retailers.
Nearly two months after release, it was great to finally hear that Driveclub’s Challenges have been turned back on, after a troublesome launch. While a few readers, such as Jag and TSBonyman were looking forward to giving the game another try, but Carrot381 was less sympathetic, saying “Far too late for me. My interest in this game died weeks ago.” Amphlett questioned if whether the reduced number of players has led to this decision:
If one of the main problems for the game was that it just couldn’t handle all of the data traffic due to an overly ambitious number of gameplay points requiring server access/data traffic and, as they admitted, a set of poorly optimized code, then it would make sense for them to temporarily switch off the Challenges code. Maybe after a period of time when the number of players has subsided and they have made some client and server code tweaks it should be safer to switch this feature back on.
He goes on to ask if we’ll ever see the PS+ edition, and what effect that will have with a large influx of new players, but I guess we’ll just have to wait it out with our fingers crossed.
Turning our attention now to our trophy hunters and their latest conquests, we’ll begin with DividSmythe who earned the Platinum for Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racconus twice, once on PS3 and once Vita, which I think is cheating a bit (I’m only bitter because he achieved half of my total trophy haul in just one week!).
I did manage to grab the DLC trophy for completing all of the advanced co-op missions in Red Dead Redemption along with Youles (who again wants to mention his FIFA 15 Plat and the dreaded Extra Effort trophy) and Avenger. This week we’ll hopefully finish off the DLC trophies by getting gold medals for them all.
Lastly, Crazy_Del added the Driveclub platinum to his trophy cupboard with a fastest date and time, probably thanks to Evolution switching back on the challenges, while element666 nabbed the Far Cry 4 silverware too. R1MJAW then went and polished off the platinum for LittleBigplanet 3 on PS4 in record time.
A inferior race has been busily tapping your latest trophies into his tables, and you can head over to page 2 to view the latest trophy leaderboards.
