Community Round-Up: 18/06/16

E3 2016 is over, and our appetites should be sufficiently whetted in anticipation for what awaits us in the coming months and years. What were your personal highlights? Was there anything you were hoping for that didn’t come to fruition?

Drop us a comment below, but not before you digest this week’s Community Round-Up!

Unsurprisingly, the reviews and previews were a tad light this week thanks to all the E3 shenanigans, but because of that they were also easy to miss.

Our high scorer this week was Guilty Gear XRD Revelator. Although Dave called it “more like an expansion than a legitimate sequel”, that didn’t stop him awarding it a 9/10, thanks to stunning visuals, a nice character roster and a decent selection of game modes.

The next game was also our last, as Miguel awarded Grand Kingdom an 8/10. He called the tactical RPG “one of the most satisfying portable experiences I’ve had on the Vita” citing the unique gameplay that blends together bits from several other genres.

Turning to the previews now, we had the first look at a few games freshly revealed at E3. FIFA 17 brings with it a new gamemode, The Journey, that sees you taking on the role of Alex Hunter, a young up and coming footballer.

Continuing the EA theme, Stefan also went hands on with Battlefield 1, looking at how DICE are translating the WW1 setting to the fluid and fast-paced Battlefield game we expect it to be. His last preview was for Titanfall 2, as he strapped himself into his Titan to see what new tricks are in multiplayer.

Meanwhile, Jim played Resident Evil 7’s The Beginning Hour (which is actually a 15 minute demo), and shared his thoughts on Days Gone‘s reveal, a new IP for the PS4 which is yet another zombie survival action game, It’s still early days and there’s a lot more to be revealed for sure.

Sony kicked off their conference with the new God of War that sees Santa Monica Studios taking a new angle (quite literally) on Kratos, which has certainly stirred up a few things among fans. On the other hand, Microsoft fans have Halo Wars 2 to look forward to, but the big news of course was the new hardware. With the Xbox One S launching later this year, followed by the powerhouse that is the Scorpio, Stefan wrote how Microsoft are finally controlling the message, and are putting the ball firmly in Sony’s court to compete.

Now that E3 has all but wrapped up until next year, Stefan dared to ask that question everyone loves to argue about: Who Won E3?

The Podcast returned for an E3 Special with Kris, Teflon and Tuffcub, while What We Played #258 featured Halo Wars 2, Battlefield and Just Cause 3.

Time to open up the Forums and have a look!

Have a lovely weekend, and I’ll see you again next week!

  1. Apparently, trailers are not meant to be discussed or shared on Youtube and that other companies can claim the copyright to it. So if you can’t view any trailers apart from offical channel ones or want to watch people discuss it but can’t due to Content ID being beyond broken. That is why.

    Don’t ask why.

As for me? Last gen peasent. I know my place in society. *goes back to the corner*

Oh and i think it’s that time of the year again where i can consider kidnapping Gazzagb and overtake the round up again.

    • The same empty threats against Gazzagb…

      :P

      • Empty? I get an uncontrollable twitch every time he mentions it!

Maybe soon Steven, but last time I was such a pain to get in contact with you!

      • They aren’t empty. I just forgot to fill them with mouldy cabbages, Ride to Hell:Retribution, every Uwe Boll film and Brian Blessed, who Gazzagb fears.

Tell that to Twitter who refuse to let me access my ***** account because i can’t use the reset password because their email doesn’t work work in explorer or Firefox or Chrome.

      • You could always just create another account..?

  2. RE7 a 15 minute demo..? Well, my playstyle must be very different then, as I enjoyed it for about three times as long, being fairly scared and deliberating whether to peek or even go around the next corner… A very intense game..!

Alien:Isolation 2 was not announced at e3, which left me devastated.

    • I think Creative Assembly are full steam ahead on Total War games right now, so maybe after they release Halo Wars 2 we’ll hear something about another Alien.

      • To be honest, I was not overly surprised we’ve not heard anything about it. It’ll probably be announced when Alien 5 is in the making, and given how long that takes… ;o)

    • To be fair, it was only released a few years back and CA are kinda occupied with Total Warhammer(seriously, why not call it that?)and other projects. Plus, Warner probably wants a dozen tie in games and this wouldn’t suit their needs.
