As Spider-Man is brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe fold with Spider-Man: Homecoming next month, but it’s not just Tom Holland who gets to be Spider-Man, and not just Jacob Batalon who gets to borrow it for a little while. Sony – the Sony Pictures Entertainment lot, as opposed to the PlayStation lot – are releasing a Spider-Man: Homecoming Virtual Reality Experience on 30th June, which is coming to Cinemark cinemas in the US, as well as to users with PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive at home.
Update: Spider-Man: Homecoming VR is coming out for free across these three major VR platforms on 30th June, before the film’s release on 7th July. Who made it, you might ask? Turns out that was CreateVR, with Dell’s product placement in the film extending to their Precision workstations being used for its development.
There’s a definite Batman: Arkham VR vibe to it, as you put on Spidey’s suit and check out some of his gadgets, but expect something a little more along the lines of a (web) shooting gallery than a narrative driven adventure.
And if you don’t have VR? Well, there’s always Insomniac’s Spidey game coming out next year…
