Star Wars Battlefront II Celebration Edition, The Rise of Skywalker content and playable BB-8 announced

If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to jump back into Star Wars Battlefront II then now is the time. EA and DICE have just announced their tie-in game content based on the upcoming Star Wars film, The Rise of Skywalker, and a new Celebration Edition release of the game to mark its second anniversary, collecting all of the free and paid content in one bundle.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker content will start to be added to Battlefront II in a free update that drops on 17th December for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Star Wars Battlefront II is available now as part of EA Access, with the Celebration Edition out tomorrow, 5th December.

There will be four new sequel era reinforcements to deploy as, with the strikingly red armoured Infiltrator class Sith trooper and the Jet Trooper for the First Order, and a new Gunner and Spy unit for the Resistance. And to make sure they’re all nice an up to date, Finn, Rey and Kylo Ren will be getting new Hero Appearances that can be bought for Credits or Crystals or are a part of the Celebration Edition.

It will feature a brand new jungle planet that was featured in the most recent trailer for the film, adding it to Co-op alongside Takodana, Jakku and Starkiller Base, as a new location for Heroes vs. Villains. However, while all of the other content will drop on 17th December, you’ll have to wait until 20th December for the new planet.

You’ll alos have more content to look forward to in January. This will see the Capital Supremacy mode jump into the sequel era, with the MC85 against the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer. This will see the new jungle planet’s first appearance in the larger game modes, with this planet and Jakku featuring in the Capital Supremacy.

Oh, and you’ll also have two new droids to play as: BB-8 and his evil counterpart BB-9E. Both will be joining the roster in January.

Back to the here and now, and DICE have a lot planned for December. The next few weeks will see back to back community events and challenges with a triple XP weekend about to start with a triple XP fortnight to bring in the new year.

DICE also revealed a new version of the game dubbed “Star Wars Battlefront II: Celebration Edition”. Leaked earlier this week, it crams in a ton of bonus content, EA no doubt hoping to see a nice bump in sales thanks to the upcoming finale of the current Star Wars trilogy.

It’s worth mentioning that this bonus content doesn’t impact gameplay, instead giving Star Wars fans an extensive wardrobe of costumes for their units and heroes. Here’s what you’ll get with the Celebration Edition:

  • Base Game (Including all past and future free game updates as they release)
  • More than 25 Hero Appearances ○ Including six Legendary Appearances, plus one Appearance each for Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren inspired by STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, coming December 20
  • More than 125 Trooper and Reinforcement Appearances
  • More than 100 Hero and Trooper Emotes and Voice Lines
  • More than 70 Hero and Trooper Victory Poses
