UPDATE: Watch the new Horizon Forbidden West story trailer here!

Horizon Forbidden West is set to launch on the 18th February on both PS4 and PS5 and ahead of that Sony have released a new story trailer.

It does contain quite a lot footage we have seen before but there are some new sections. Most notably what appears to be a golden hologram, perhaps a representation of Gaia, one of the supercomputers from the first game, and right at the end a human wearing a space-age silver suit rather than the rougher tribal styles every other character wears.

Who is this mysteriously woman and more importantly, why is inviting Aloy for a nice cup of tea at a very posh looking table? Is it in indication that, contrary to previous game lore, some humans did survive he machine apocalypse?

UPDATE: The holographic woman is confirmed as Gaia and the mysterious woman in the silver dress is played by none other than Carrie-Anne Moss! Regalla, the main antagonist of the game is played by the amazing Angela Bassett.

Horizon Forbidden West has just been revealed as one of the top games in our 2022 Most Wanted list, coming in at number 3. Read our thoughts on the upcoming PlayStation exclusive here.

This new trailer comes just a few days after we got our first glimpse of Horizon in VR. Sony confirmed the name of PlayStation VR2 while also announcing their first exclusive game: Horizon Call of the Mountain. Who’s looking forward to popping a fancy hat on to truly enter Aloy’s world?

Horizon Forbidden West will release on February 18th 2022, having missed its intended 2021 release target. As a cross-gen release for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Sony caused a bit of a stink when revealing their upgrade plans (or lack thereof), quickly U-turning to stick to the spirit of previous statements they had made to now offer free upgrades from PS4 to PS5. Great news for those stuck on the older generation during the current console shortages, as everyone that wants can pick up the game without worrying about future upgrade fees on this occasion.

  1. In the first game it’s revealed that a signal was sent to cause each aspect of the AI program to become independent AIs, which is why Hades broke loose and tried to reboot Earth. But who or what sent that signal?

After this trailer I wonder if that rocket full of rich people didn’t actually explode as it left Earth before the apocalypse.

    • Damn! I can’t remember much of the story arc of the first game.
