EA has removed Manchester United player Mason Greenwood from FIFA 22’s offline game modes following his arrested on the weekend after allegations of rape and assault were made against him by a woman on social media, backed by video, audio and photographic evidence.
As part of a squad update across PlayStation, Xbox and PC, Greenwood is no longer included in the United team (neither starting team nor the reserves), and has been removed from the offline player database.
He’s not been completely removed from the game, as he will still appear in pre-existing Career Mode saves and can still be traded in Ultimate Team. We would expect that EA are looking to take further measures to remove him from these modes in the near future.
Greenwood has been held by the Greater Manchester Police since Sunday, who have been allowed to hold him in custody for more time as they continue their investigation.
There has already been reaction by Manchester United to say that he will not be training or playing for the club until further notice, and pulling associated merchandise from their store. Nike has suspended their relationship with the player, and Cadbury will not feature him in upcoming marketing.
