Sony have, it appears, been playing a very sneaky cat and mouse game with Microsoft this year.
It started with the sudden switcheroo that resulted in Sony ‘going first’ with their next-gen reveal in February to the surprise of everyone but the vague ‘Holiday 2013’ date that was mentioned was always, apparently, going to be the case, even in the UK.
When the Metro ad appeared this morning, we fired off a quick email to SCEE PR to see whether or not this was the real deal, and whether there was an official press release to accompany it.
Not as such, but there was a rather frank, official-sounding statement. “We announced at the PlayStation Meeting event on Feb 20th that PS4 would be coming in 2013,” Sony said to TheSixthAxis (and apparently at least one other site). “The adverts are simply re-stating that message.”
Ah, OK.
“More information about PS4 and all PlayStation Platforms will be announced at E3,” it continued, not really giving much away. Perhaps today’s advert was in direct response to Microsoft’s “this year” dating at the end of the Xbox One conference earlier in the week. Or perhaps not.
So, anyway, a maximum of 221 days to go.

If there’s manufacturing problems we will see it before the Japanese. Sony (& MS) really want to be Europe’s best friend at the moment.

I’m guessing like Wii-U Japan will get it last.
Lets face it Japan centric consoles sell in Japan. Sony knows this.
Europe is the main battleground as as it stands fairly similar in sales.
Although ps3 is dominant in mainland europe AND lets face it launched 16 months after 360.
UK however is like the US xbots :) This time launching same time should be good.

Sony have been unbelievably clever this time round and certainly have people wanting to sell body parts to get a glimpse and hold of their PS4. It’s the total opposite for the Xbox One and its startling.
I for one will be pre-ordering a PS4, but only after E3.

Weird email to get back!

Anyone noticed the blue bar at the end of the video? I bet this is how the console will show it’s powered on. Like a light bar across the whole console side.

Gotta laugh at those dudes who do that to a fiesta or whatever. I think lighting to make it look futuristic would be cool though… As long as it isn’t overdone.

we have an analytical instrument in work that measures the size of small particles, and the manufacturers stuck this weird strip of blue led’s along the side of it that continually fills up and then turns opff while it is running! I think it was to try and make it a little more interesting, when commenting on it when we were having it demoed, they said its because its so quiet when it was running they had to display somehow that it was on and doing an experiment!

I also think this could look really good. it can be done is such way that it doesn’t light up your whole room when it’s on, but be like a “colour changing stripe”.

Well, Europe is an important battleground, seeing how MS owns the US, and Sony Japan. I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a console launch before. I normally play it cool and wait a year or so before buying into the next gen, going PC inbetween, but this time I’m going all in day one.
