Something For The Weekend – 08/04/17

All eyes were on Microsoft this week, with their spec reveal for the Scorpio. No-one can deny that the console is going to be a beast, and it will certainly be interesting to see what developers can do with all that extra power unleashed!

Let’s take a look back over the past seven days on TSA.

In the News This Week

Games in Review

There was a good variety of genres in the reviews this week, and overall the scores were pretty decent too – except for Jim who had the displeasure of reviewing Troll & I.

This Week’s Features

EGX Rezzed took place last weekend, and luckily Kris and a few others were on hand to bring us all the action first hand. Kris brought us some previews for OctahedronOh My Godheads and Augmented Empire from the show floor, and Jake rounded up some of his previews for Pocket Rumble, Immortal Redneck & More. Kris took a look at the Square Enix Collective, while Dave focused on the guys over at Double Fine.

Stefan, not wanting to be outdone, also had a busy week. He started with a look at Agents of Mayhem, and if you check out the video below, you’ll see it’s obviously come from the same people behind Saints Row. If you’re interested, he also spoke to Kate Nelson, Producer of the game, about how the team are stepping into new territory while still retaining their trademark sense of humour.

Dom had a look at the hilarious LEGO City Undercover, which he calls “arguably one of the best, if not the best, Lego games of the last ten years.” Meanwhile, Stefan described Battalion 1944  as “the classic WW2 shooter you have been asking for”, and interviewed producer, Joe Brammer, about managing expectations and why they decided against launching a glitzy trailer for the game.

Tef actually started his week with a look at the VR game, Dick Wilde, which is a gallery shooter making use of the new VR controllers out on the market. Elsewhere, he also gave us his impression of how the upcoming Mass Transit DLC will improve things for city managers in Cities: Skylines, which is soon to be arriving on Xbox One.

Lastly, What We Played hit the big 300, and so to celebrate the staff decided to share what were their favourite games – make sure you get your shouts in too!

Your Achievements

Dom’s What We Played article was derailed by the writers failing to name their #1 favourite game, and his article has now derailed the Achievements as most of you were to busy listing off your favourite games to share what you’ve been up to this week!

In fact, DividSmythe was the only one to mention his trophy hunting adventures as celebrated his 100th platinum with Virginia!

The Week Ahead

It’s all looking extremely quiet for the releases next week thanks to Easter, perhaps it would be a good time to get through your backlog?

  • Yooka-Laylee – PS4, XBO, Switch, PC – 11/04
  • Aaero – PS4, XBO, Switch, PC – 11/04

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend, and let’s hope it continues!

  1. Playing Driveclub Bikes last night I realised that I’ve been leaning with the corners! Has anyone else achieved this clearly ridiculous level of immersion?

    • Is that in VR or just normal Driveclub?

      • Just normal, but Bikes! The viewpoint doesn’t even lean when you go round corners but the bikes go so far over I can’t help myself.

      • That’s as bad as me. Except I also do it in a FPS, and quite possibly pretty much anything. I try and look round corners or over obstacles by leaning.

      • Hah, I like it sounds like you properly get into the games! Having thought about it I’m pretty sure I even lean in puzzle games like Lumines, it’s a way of life.
