PS5 timed console exclusive GhostWire: Tokyo has been delayed to early 2022, Bethesda and developer Tango Gameworks have announced. Previously expected to release in October 2021, the decision seems to be founded in concerns over the rise in Covid-19 cases in Japan, with Tango Gameworks putting the health of its employees first.
In the statement released on Twitter, Tango Gameworks said:
We’ve made the decision to delay the launch of Ghostwire: Tokyo to early 2022.
We want to get the game in your hands as soon as possible so you can experience the unforgettable version of a hunated Tokyo that we’ve been hard at work building. At the same time, we’re also focused on protecting the health of everyone at Tango. Our new release window will give us time to bring the world of Ghostwire to life as we’ve always envisioned it.
Thank you for being patient as we work to bring you an experience unlike anything else we’ve ever made. We can’t wait to show you more in the coming months.
GhostWire: Tokyo is in development for PlayStation 5 and PC, a timed console exclusive to Sony’s console, despite Microsoft now owning publisher Bethesda. Xbox owners will expect to see the game release for Xbox Series X|S one year after its PlayStation 5 release.
The game features a supernatural take on Tokyo, as you battle ghostly spirits that threaten the city in first person. You’re the only person who can help, able to hear threats that others don’t, exploring and unraveling the mysterious disappearances of people across the city, and then battling them in first person combat using supernatural powers.
GhostWire Tokyo was announced back at E3 2019, and lit up the Bethesda E3 conference with the presence of then Creative Director Ikumi Nakamura, however, she left the Evil Within developer a few months later to work on other projects. This will certainly still have a lot of the work that she put into it while leading the project, however.
