Bodycount Inspired By Lady Gaga

Bodycount, the game from Black creator Stuart Black running on the EGO engine from Codemasters, might have shown its hand in terms of screens, but its inspiration isn’t quite so obvious – Lady Gaga?  The revolutionary popstress was “a major thing” for Black. “I saw her at Glastonbury in July,” he said, “and was just blown away by her performance.  The power of it, the creativity.  I found that incredibly exciting.”

Black, in an interview with Edge magazine claims that “we’ve got so lazy, self-absorbed and self-referencing” and says that some developers are “caught up” with vehicle and on-rails sections, which he says is “distracting”.

Bodycount looks to change all that – it’s destructive, innovative and pure – and whose story exists in what Black calls a state of “heightened ridiculousness”.    He also calls out developers who claim to have “maxed out” a console, normally in order to gain a few column inches.  “A 16 year old could max out PS3 just by getting it to work out pi to 1,000 decimal points,” he says rather refreshingly (and truthfully).

Bodycount doesn’t have a release date yet, but we’ll be watching it very closely as the game develops.  Issue 213 of Edge is out next week, and as usual is a brilliant read.
