It’s the story that just won’t go away. You know the one – Grand Theft Auto IV DLC, the same DLC that Microsoft purchased exclusivity rights to with a cheque for $50 million, is coming to the PS3.
We’ve experienced an endless onslaught of rumours, hearsay, false retail listings and more over the years, but is this it? Has The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad Of Gay Tony finally been confirmed for the PS3?
The latest in the perpetual is-it-isn’t-it is a continuation of the recent sighting of the game in disc format (technically not DLC, but we’re not going there right at this minute) over at SimplyGames – one of the smaller of online retailers.
When the recent listing page was mysteriously pulled, many chalked this latest possibility down to yet another erroneous gaffe on behalf of someone with a copy of Photoshop and too much time on their hands. The plot thickens.
Contacting SimplyGames regarding the listing, ConnectedConsoles received the following reply:
The statement “We have had to remove this title for a short period.” sounds to us that SimplyGames simply jumped the gun a little and inadvertently confirmed the existence of something truly monumental.
At this rate, we’re not even going to speculate on what’s happening with the two episodes and whether or not they will finally make an appearance on the PS3. There have been so many false dawns in the past, we’ll only believe it when the disc is physically in our hands. Or, you know, Rockstar tell us it’s real. That will also suffice.

Trophies weren’t out when I finished it so the release of the DLC for PS3 would make me dust off the disc and stick it in the slot.

Maybe this came out a little too late for me. I lost interest in GTA4 a while back now. Maybe if I have some extra change in my pocket I’ll get it. I’m glad it finally came to the PS3 though.

I always thought GTA IV was pretty lacking once you’d finished the story, so additional content would be nice. But, GTA IV was released nearly two years ago. How much do they expect to sell?

Yay! Hopefully this will all come through. I hope they release it as DLC too though, as I already have GTA IV

If you aim to get both episodes, it works out cheaper to get the disk version.

Really? I thought the disk was £35 and the episodes £10-£15 each? o.O

I want BoGT, looked more fun than IV, suppose we have to wait until its official now, or this just fades away

Microsoft’s deal was exclusive ‘DLC’
This is an add-on.
Nice loophole Rockstar! <3

I don’t think MS can or would be fooled by the wording of a contract. We usually hear about contract disputes from the courts. The only person MS likes to be screwed by is Mrs. MS, and R* isn’t Mrs MS. If R* was trying to pull one over on MS, MS would be threatening to sue everyone involved and we would here about it. But MS has been vocal about how the deal hasn’t worked out as they planned and I still believe both R* and MS have decided to rewrite the deal so MS can receive some of their money back, giving the rights back to R*. Either way I’m happy and expect R* to confirm it soon.

If this really is coming to PS3, it’s likely MS’s contract was for timed exclusivity only.

Just like Ninja Gaiden, I expect that this will eventually come out for the PS3. Remember that Ninja Gaiden 2 was announced for PS3 exactly a year after 360 release, same with Bioshock, Lost Planet, Fallout 3 DLC etc. I think that Microsoft is effectively paying for one year exclusivity most of the time…my guess would be around April/May

But the BoGT just came out in oct, so they’d have to wait until then to be able to release them both. But the LatD came out on feb 17, so if you right the dlc for LatD will be on the PSN in 3 weeks… That’s the best scenario yet… here’s hoping.

i would love to see this on ps3 but can’t see it happening, and i won’t believe it till rockstar say it’s true.
but maybe ms only bought timed exclusivity on the dlc and that time has run out.
not gonna hold my breath waiting though.
