WipEout HD 3D Patch Up

You already know that today is Sony’s Day Of 3D, but whilst you’re waiting for the Store to get itself up and running with your 3D goodies, chuck WipEout HD into your PS3 and grab the patch that’s there already waiting for you and your brand new TV.

The patch, which takes the US version of WipEout HD to version 2.20 (Euro version incoming) is just 9 megabytes and converts the whole thing to stereoscopic TV. Reports suggest a massive improvement in immersion, and could well be the 3D killer app.

We’re assuming the patch for PAIN will be along shortly, and the one for Super Stardust HD has been out for days.

Update: there’s a downloadable token for the PAIN demo if you have the full game already installed.

  1. This is one of the few games I’d like to see in 3D, with others including Flower and maybe even FFXIII too.

    • Yeah same here. WipeOut HD in 3D is bound to be awesome.
      Shame I don’t have an 3D TV

  2. Shame they can’t patch a 3D telly into my lounge!

    • shame they can’t patch a couple of grand into my bank account

  3. I would love to have a go at this!

  4. Are there any any 3D tellys available in the UK?

    • yea. pop to currys on weekend, they have Samsungs and LG’s. Would be nice to hook up a PS3 in store to play a few games in 3D. I bet the Sony Centres will have a set up ready to play come to think about it

    • I watched Chelseas last game of the season (im not a Chelsea fan) in 3-D in the local Yates and i was blown away at how good it was . It was just a 32inch LG and we where stood a fair distance from the screen but it was mind blowingly good and my first thought was that it would be better suited to gaming .
Last thing i saw in 3d was Jaws 3-d in about 1984 , i cant imagine how amazing avatar must have been after having recently watched it on bog standard blu ray .

  5. how much exactly are these new TVs?

    • I guess they’re over £1000 but cheaper in a few years

      • Bit interesting on the prices, just grabed at a list of Samsungs here for you, http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-40-to-42-tvs/301_3003_30003_43_xx/xx-criteria.html ,

        Its;
        £1200 for a 40″ 3D HD LCD
        £900 for a 40″ HD LCD

Thats not a big price diffrence and the 3D set has only been out a month. They did say the HD and 3D tech is very close so the extra cost would be minimal, but i didnt belive them untill i looked at the prices.

People will get 3D sets, and then if they fancy it, get the gasses and turn 3D on as and when they like. By Xmas the price diffrence will be around £100, and by March all TV’s sold will be 3D ready, then its just a case of the users using the feature or not. Bit like my TV’s freeview turner never getting used, but its there if i want it.

  6. I’m not really too into this, I hate the idea of having to wear glasses while playing games. No doubt it’ll look amazing, but I think a 3DTV is a waste of money HD suits me fine!

    • I’ve yet to get a HD-TV, but 3D tv doesn’t really appeal to me..

  7. This news will really excite all 3 people in the country to have a 3dtv and a ps3.

  8. Yep. I’m one of those 3 (rolls eyes).

PAIN doesn’t or won’t seem to work for me…i’ve downloaded the game and patch but theres nothing regarding 3D on it! Anyone have the same problem?

    • i know one other TASian has a 3D set, email one of the team and they will point him out.lol

      • Me?

…I haven’t had a chance to test PAIN yet, but Wipeout and Stardust are working for me.

The update for Stardust actually makes quite a difference, as it allows you to choose 3D or 2D mode, whereas up until now it has been 3D only.

      • Ah wicked! Could you test out PAIN and tell me where the hell the 3D games are on it? i have no idea…it doesn’t automatically go 3D either! Thanks!

    • I must be the third one then, both SSHD and Wipeout now ask if I want to play in 3D when I launch them. Have you got version 5 of SSHD and version 2.2 of Wipeout?

      • Where do I fit in then as I am the fourth??

    • You have to pay for the pain 3D add-on. It will be available seperately soon. In the 3D add-on for it you get the 3D patch + some new games modes.

      • If you already have PAIN, Which i do…then the 3D add-on is a free download!

      • So what is the 3D-Add on..available in the European store then?

      • The one you have to pay for? Its the 3d patch/file.

      • Thats what i downloaded this morning for free?

      • Did you buy the 3D bundle pack? there no 3d file for pain on my store? No patch for it either, last one was 5.05 ages ago.

      • Weird…yeah its called PAIN 3D its about 3 rows down!

      • Ah now its on the store here, and a new patch for pain.

  9. Man I would like to see this…

    • and me, shame its not something that cant be screen grabed

  10. Is anyone having issues with the Super Stardust HD patch?
Everytime I hit download, the console beeps and restarts. 5 times thats happened now.

    • Downnload the game again. The version on the store is the latest (5.0)
