Earlier today we reported that Robert Bowling had tweeted that ‘no such plan exists for this or any other Call of Duty (including the upcoming Black Ops)’. This was in response to a video that claimed to show some sort of payment system to play Modern Warfare 2. The person responsible for this video was last seen calling the fire brigade due an emerging blaze in the trouser area.
Following this the Black Ops team have waded in and Treyarch’s Josh Olin has added via Twitter: “No, you will not have to ‘Pay to Play’ Call of Duty: Black Ops multi player either. Rumor -> Squashed.”
Just in case there is any doubt, Activision’s Dan Amrich has posted a note on his blog that there is “not a secret portal to some nefarious plot to charge people for COD multi player — and there are no plans to do that”. So just to be absolutely, 100% clear, Activision will not be making you pay to play online for Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops.
