New GT5 Scans Confirm Karting

Some new scans have emerged of Sony’s racing simulation behemoth that is Gran Turismo 5. We brought word of stunt arenas, showed off how head tracking could work and relished in the PS Home-style wonderment on offer with My Lounge. Now, dear readers, we are very proud to bring you some sort of grainy and a little bit out of focus camera shots of a French gaming mag’s feature on GT5. I know, I know; we spoil you.

In all seriousness, some very interesting looking GT5 screens have been posted to the French gaming website and blog Gamerama. The shots are of the French summer edition of the Official PlayStation Magazine’s fairly sizable feature on the racing behemoth that has forever been on the horizon.

The shots themselves, aside from once again reminding us just how gorgeous this game is looking, touch on a number of things such as the 3D functionality, kart racing and incredibly detailed car damage modeling. What is most apparent, however, is that SCE are certainly not doing things by half with GT5. There are more than 70 courses and we counted no less than fourteen different racing classes, which, combined with in excess of 1000 cars, allows for a staggering amount of race time.

We’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s on display here and could go on with what we can take from these pictures, but for now we’ll let you pore over them for yourselves. Just follow this link and click ‘voir’ to bypass the anti-spoiler measures.

  1. nice one guys. I must admit, I have been bored waiting for this. The last one wasn’t that great, but the more I hear of this game, the more I’m getting closer to buying it.

    • agreed. grand theft auto and burnout are the closest i usually get to racing games, but I don’t think I’ll be able to help myself. There just seems too much not to like!

      • If your going to buy any racing game buy this one.

  2. WANT. I’m even getting a PS3 steering wheel to maximize the experience. I can not wait for this.
Also, Not all cars are being released straight away, there are a lot going to come out in DLC’s which, looking at the prices of other add ons, will cost you an arm and a leg. Around 2 T-Shirts per car pack with 5 cars I reckon.

  3. OPM France has had an awful track record with GT5 info. All the other thumbnails in that image are from old trailers or screenshots. The kart picture is propably a stock photo or something. I’ll believe it has kart racing when I’m playing the game for myself.

  4. Karting was confirmed ages ago by Polyphony wasn’t it?

    • No. Shuhei Yoshida slipped the karting and track editor in an interview. It’s still unclear whether he was referring to GT5 or ModNation Racers. The internet just ran with it like it’s in GT5.

  5. I’m more intrigued by having the Red Bull F1 car… Ferrari has a monopoly no more…

  6. So only Ferrari and Red Bull? Hmmmm…

  7. hurry up and be november 28th already… i have a shiny G25 boxed up that needs some serious love. love that ferrari challenge, supercar challenge and all the other wii ports eutechnyx keep trotting out on ps3…

  8. I wonder how many copies of the game they will need to sell to cover the costs?

  9. I’ve never been a racing-fan, but this is a must-buy for me due to all the content, polish and quality the game seem to offer. Looks brilliant!

  10. one question. will there be turtles i can throw at my friends?
