It’s crazy how much effort went into making sure that each character stayed true to the source material. Dante, for instance, pretty much has every move he’s ever done in Devil May Cry. Arthur plays almost exactly as he would in Ghosts ‘n Goblins, down to the way he jumps. The amount of detail on the Marvel side is just as accurate. There’s a reason why every character looks the way they do, from Spider-Man’s symbiote costume to Captain America’s Punisher outfit. Each costume is a reference to some point in time in comic book or Marvel vs. Capcom history. Even Mango Sentinel returns.
The soundtrack is some of Capcom’s best work in quite some time. Gone are the days of that smooth jazz from MvC2 that made no sense. Instead, Capcom went back to character specific themes that constantly change during a match. Some are completely new, while others are remixes of classic themes from the versus series. There is also an option to switch stage themes, which surprisingly aren’t random either. And yes, “take you for a ride” is back in multiple forms.
Pros:
- Roster is incredibly varied
- Easy to pickup and play
- Gameplay feels like a sandbox with infinite possibilities
- Tons of fan-service and references to source material
- Graphics are absolutely gorgeous in motion
- Mission mode is actually useful
Cons:
- Online play is missing key features (No spectator mode?!)
- Damage seems a bit too high at times
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is hands down a must own title for fans of the series. Even if you only have a passing interest in the genre, this is a game that you shouldn’t miss out on. The intuitive gameplay mechanics provide limitless possibilities and give the player more power and personality than ever before. If you can think of it, it’s most likely possible. While there are some issues with the online multiplayer in terms of functionality and features, these are issues that can be remedied with a patch. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is not only a worthy successor to the legendary MvC2, it easily surpasses it in nearly every way.
Score: 9/10

Now, that’s how you review a fighting game.

I picked this up the other day and absolutely loving it. The problem I’ve had with a lot of fighting games is you have to be insanely good to have a chance online and such. With this I’ve won a few matches and feel like I have a chance. Great game.

Excellent review! Its always tricky to review a beat em up (as I found when reviewing this game myself a few days ago) but this was certainly very comprehensive. Really enjoying the game at the moment but I agree about the basic online support
