PlayStation 3 Celebrates Its 4th Birthday

Today sees Sony celebrate the PlayStation 3’s fourth birthday in Europe. Our beloved black box has had somewhat of a difficult journey; plagued by a launch price beyond the reach of many; wounded by an uninspiring launch line-up, and battered by early ports that paled in comparison to their Xbox 360 counterparts.

How things have changed though, and we don’t think anyone can argue against the fact that this year is the year of the PS3. Only three months in and we’ve been given LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3, and MotorStorm Apocalypse. Looking further down the line sees titles such as InFamous 2, Journey, and Uncharted 3.

Happy birthday PS3; here’s to another four years!

  1. 4 Years and my day one 60gb is still going strong but it has a 640gb Hdd in it now lovin the PS3

    • I ditched my fatty for a younger, sexier, slimmer model!

      • 4 USB ports and card readers for me every time

      • Still playing PS1/2 games on it. Every now and than.

  2. I bought mine from woolworths on launch day!

  3. Happy Birthday PS3.

  4. After all the developer tax BS, im on my first and last ps3. if my console dies and theres a game i want like gta5 then il just rent

    • Really, I’m sorry you feel that way.

  5. Still on my 60gb PS3 which I got about 6 months after launch, the announcement that the PS2 compatible machines were being replaced, forced me to purchase one. Though to be honest I have played few PS2 games on it, I really appreciate the 4 USB ports and the card reader, as well as the shinny silver strip rather than the dull grey one. Shame they have changed the font too, I much preferred the ‘Spiderman’ one.

    • have a 500gb HDD in it now too.

    • Same reason I went out and got a phatty too, and after a couple of years I got panicky that it would die so I bought it’s little sexier sister too!

      • i brought the misses a slim for xmas, so just have to remember to back up my saves and sync my trophies. The phat is really loud, but until it actually stops working, I won’t be investing in a new one. It even survived a bit of water being spilt on it, got the yellow light too. Just let it dry out for a day and thankfully it started working again!

  6. Wow. 4 years and 3 Playstations. It has become better and better over these 4 years, in that time i found TSA as a PS3 site and it has brought me many happy days.
Thankyou Sony and TSA I say.

    • 3? I think I’ve had 4, only one of which died, due to software, not had a YLoD myself.

    • Had a Blu-Ray drive fail & then YLOD on my launch day 60GB. But like many others have moved on to its slimmer little sister!

      • Slims are shite! I hate my slim and looking forward to the imminent return of my phatty, new and improved! :D

Sure the slim does the basic job but it doesnt have it all like the phat does.

  7. Has anyone’s PS3 even lasted 4 years??

Mine got YLOD in December 2009, used from 23rd March 2007.

    • I still have a working launch model, as well as a slim. Sounds like I’m in the minority.

    • Bought mine a few months after launch. 60GB model. Still going strong.

    • My one is still alive…Just

    • Mine’s also still going strong. *knock on wood

      • mine too, well 3.5 years. Is pretty noisy though.

    • Most of the TSA readership know the story with mine…

  8. I was a late comer to the PS3, missed the first 2 years. Happy buffday PS3

  9. Wow I still got my mine but not launched got it when Metal Gear Solid was launched, also got a slim too back in September 2010
