No Vita in Europe Until 2012

If CVG and VG247 are to be believed, the PlayStation Vita won’t arrive on European store shelves until early 2012. This is what many had predicted after Jack Tretton’s hurried claims that the aim was global availability in fiscal 2011, making the handheld available before the end of March 2012.

Apparently Sony are still aiming for a pre-Christmas launch in North America and we’d be surprised to see it released later than that in Japan. So it seems that it’s only the PAL regions being allowed to slip to calendar 2012.

The projected EU price that most retailers are predicting for the purposes of securing those early pre-orders is £239/£289 or €249/€299 but so far, only the US price of $249/$299 has been confirmed.

So, who’s importing then?

  1. Want one but happy to wait really, plenty of games to play on my psp still ;)

  2. By then the 3DS will be into its stride. Shame.

    • It is a shame, although they should get the consumers hooked in the other regions, the 3DS games should be out by then and so people who don’t know about the product – like those who don’t read the news on stuff like games – e.g. children who will buy the product – they will not know to wait till it is out and so they will pester for a 3DS this Christmas time.

    • I’m hoping the 3DS receives a competitive price drop around the release of the Vita.

  3. I think it will be a real shame if it doesn’t get released before Christmas. I imagine that there will be a fair few people out there that won’t be able warrent spending that kind of money so soon after the expense of Christmas.

    • Very true, I don’t think I’ll be treating myself after Chrismas.

  4. I doubt even NA will see it this year, there’s bound to be delays.

  5. Thats my Christmas present out of the window then! Poo

  6. No surprise there, I thought we’d be lucky to see it before 2012 when name etc. was announced at E3.

  7. “Living la Vita loca” *shakes head in disapproval*

  9. I guess EU customers should be used to being the last one in queue for Sony. Another middle finger for our brand support.

    • look at japan, they don’t even have psn fully back up so i dont think we are the last
