SSX Isn’t The First Attempt At A Reboot

Todd Batty, creative director on EA’s SSX reboot, has spoken out about the game, and how it’s not the first attempt at getting the classic series back onto the slopes.

“When I was asked to take another kick at bringing SSX back,” he said, “I had heard of some previous attempts both within our studio and in other studios at EA – and I was fortunate enough to be able to contact one of those teams and ask what the big sticking point was, and why it never materialised and came together.”

“I get the impression,” he continues,” that none of these made it past early concept stages.”

“I know there have been multiple attempts, but none of them went seriously far, for sure, or I would know about it.”

It also transpires that SSX had skiing in the game “at very early stages” but was removed due to animation constraints and that if they had skis, “it would mean half as many tricks split across skis and snowboards.”

“We’d love to do skis at some point in the future,” Batty admits, “maybe as DLC or in a follow-up version to this one.”

  1. I abso-bloody-lutely cannot wait for the new SSX.

Bring on Psymon and his Guillotine move!

    • yeah, Psymon is awesome “French toast and SYRUP!” lol

  2. Leave skis alone! Look at how it worked in On Tour!

    • Am I the only person that liked the use of skis in On Tour? I’m pretty sure I preferred using them at the time, as well.

      • Hmm I’m not with you there, for whatever reason (maybe my lack of ability) board pressing seemed to be so much harder to keep going on skis. They were fun but I think the campain was just more straightforward on a board!

  3. Why is SSX the only good extreme sports game in the market? I know Skate apparently is but it isn’t as good like Tony Hawk’s Underground 2/pro Skater 4.

    Disappointed :(

  4. seen a few trailers and E3 footage looks really good, used to love playing this many moons ago so might just have to get this one

  5. not sure skis was the way forward. (SSX on tour) hardly remember that one. I defiantly didn’t buy it.
