BioWare Won’t Rule Out Changing Mass Effect 3 Ending

I haven’t been able to make time to finish Mass Effect 3 yet. In fact, I’m still in the “wander around space scanning planets” phase of my gameplay but it’s a holiday here today so I’m going to spoil myself and play for an hour or two later when I’ve done some work. I have seen some chatter around the internet about the ending.

Nothing specific (I will fight you if you spoil it) but I get the impression that many people are a little bit nonplussed by it and a certain section of people are whining like little babies about it.

[drop2]As I said, I don’t know what happens but the attitude of some people who set up petitions, emotionally blackmailed and even filed complaints with the FTC is making me ashamed to be thought of in the same vague demographic.

It’s not yours to change, you shower of numpties, it’s BioWare’s creative work. By all means, complain if you don’t like it but to assume you have the right to demand it be changed is incredibly self-important.

Anyway, BioWare is obviously a bit more patient than I am as they’ve admitted, via a statement on their Facebook page, that they are considering changing the ending to appease the entitled moaners. Their statement reads:

We would like to clarify that we are actively and seriously taking all player feedback into consideration and have ruled nothing out. At this time we are still collecting and considering your feedback and have not made a decision regarding requests to change the ending.

So there you go, soon, all of you that have already finished the game might have your experience expunged from the records and have to go back and re-do it to see the “true” ending. That’d be weird.

Please, no comments that reveal the ending to those of us who are yet to get there.

  1. I don’t really understand it. The ending has been done. It may not be the ending people wanted but it has been done. It’s a fake universe. To change the ending just seems needless.

I’m struggling to actually put into words what I mean, but I think if I was to generalise it, I would have to say
    – get over it, it’s a game, what difference will changing the ending actually make???

    • Get over people who can’t get over it. Follow your own advice, simples.

    • I’ve got nothing to get over really. As I explained, I can’t really think of the way to describe what I mean.

Try this. Will it make a difference in the sense that you have seen the “real” ending so seeing another one, will it make a difference to how you percieved the story. Will you not always just see it as the additional ending?

Just don’t think I personally would change my opinion on the story.

Any better? I’m not having a go at people, I just can’t see how them changing it will actually change people that have already seen the original endings, opinions.

      • The ending looks just like a bit of silly patched to a story that looked a bit different. Like dropping salt in a cup of coffee. If you put sugar in another cup of coffee from the same can (a cup would be a playthrough) it won’t change coffee but will instead complement it rather than spoil it

      • Fair enough. Bare in mind I’m saying all this without ever playing ME ever. No demo, nothing. I’m just pondering while typing ;)

  2. They just need to add in a new Codex Entry – that’ll solve it all….

It’s as though interpretation, imagination is dead.

‘Several plotholes’ because they’re not explained: is the only thought some people actually make for themselves so completely consumed with some faux problem that they feel something hasn’t been adequately explained to them, that they don’t have the capacity to think for themselves to add that extra bit of fiction to their Shepard’s world?

What happens if they change the ending and there’s still a section wanting it changed even further?

    • Tbh i myself don’t quite get the “plotholes” bit.

  3. I was more upset at the ending of the sopranos and I don’t recall anyone doing a petition for that at least mass effect 3 has some sort of ending the sopranos just cut to black and that was it

  4. I liked the ending, for me the weak part is that final opt out for the player. They could’ve easily forced any of the endings on the player as a direct result of their previous choices (i for one wish they had) but then people would just complain.
So all we need now is for everyone complaining to come to a mutual agreement on what the end should be and Dlc 1 should be sorted, piece of cake.

    • Don’t mention cake.

      • Mmmmmm…..Cake!

      • I love cake, lardy cake especially but anything really, dammit need to shop now.

  5. The ending isn’t even that bad since it’s a trilogy and it finishes nicely

  6. “Entitled”.
There’s that word again, spouted from every journalist left right and centre. When this many people complain about the ending, it’s because it’s awful and fans wanted better. Labelling them ‘entitled’ doesn’t instantly excuse shoddy story-telling and broken pre-release promises.

  7. Wow pretty serious then….
