As much as we wanted to believe the hype -especially after the game’s touching cinematic debut- when Dead Island (our review) launched last September it was met with mixed opinion. Banoi proved to be the ideal stomping ground for a zombie hunting escapade, yet the overall experience was blighted by a wafer thin plot and tedious quest design, not to mention the myriad of glitches and performance issues the game launched with.
Bitter nagging aside, Dead Island was something out of the norm and definitely struck a chord with the gaming masses. In less than a year it’s already shifted over 3 million copies; not bad at all for a new IP from a fairly small-time Polish developer. You can’t really blame Deep Silver for wanting to monetize the game further with a “GOTY” re-release, especially if it is to become the publisher’s future flagship franchise.
Launching at a slightly-reduced price, zombie-slaying newcomers can expect a copy of the full game as well as two DLC packs and an additional “Ripper” weapon mod. The latter expansion, dubbed “Ryder White” is a separate campaign, re-telling the events of Dead Island from a different perspective. It cut away most of the intrusive free-roam elements of the game, yet suffered from the same fundamental gameplay issues. For our full review, hit this link.
Interested? Then be sure to mark your calendars for July 6th. The Game of the Year edition will be coming to Xbox 360, Windows, and the PlayStation 3.

Watched Streams of it and it just looks dull. Yet Goty? Its the new Gold Edition then.

I just bought the normal version on Steam for $11.99. Can’t really go wrong at that price.

Seems they’ll let anyone into the GOTY party these days…

Good game (really enjoyed by me as it goes), but GotY? I think not unfortunately.
So a GotY version of a game requires no wins for GotY & now covers no more than 2 DLC packs & a preorder bonus of a weapon eh? Hmmm.

Fair comment, though it will be launching at a cheap price. Well, at least for those looking to get the console version.
Forrest_01
Oh, i agree – If anyone hasn’t picked this up yet, this would be the perfect excuse to do so. Most of the bugs on launch have been patched & it even includes some DLC (which if i recall was quite pricey actually).
I also thought it was a great game, which helps. :)
I think companies need to stop throwing the GotY term around though – What’s wrong with calling it something like ‘The Complete Edition’ or something?
citizeninsane45
This should just be called ‘the complete edition’.
I rather enjoyed the game though. Won it through a TSA competition!

Okay, who went and gave it a GOTY award? as i can’t recall any site that i know of giving it GOTY.
Still unsure about DI as i’m still having trouble getting past the lack of emotion. Curse that trailer!
Forrest_01
It made things a lot easier for me as i didn’t see the vid – I would suggest going back in time & un-watching the video. That should help. :P
The Lone Steven
I’ve been banned from using the TSA time mircowave as apparently, going back in time to enslave the human race and take over the world is not part of TSA time traveling duties.

Wait hang on, did this actually win a GOTY award?! It seems like every game is a GOTY. Im actually beginning to hate this tag.
