Sony Announce New – Wait For It – PSP

In a rather staggering display of – well, we’ve no idea what – SCEE have just announced a new PSP. A new PSP. PSP. In white. We pinched ourselves, and it’s still there. We even checked the date.

Look, the damned thing is real:

Whilst we assume that in doing all this not a single second of research and development has been diverted away from future consoles and – you know – the PS Vita, this isn’t what Sony should be doing. They, and their consumers, need to focus on Vita.

There’s a brand new handheld console out there that’s suffering sales-wise, and this won’t help, it just won’t. This isn’t even a proper PSP, it’s that daft restricted thing that nobody even noticed when it was released in black.

We’re confused. Frightened. Shocked.

  1. Well I’m not sure this is a hugely daft move, but I can’t understand the timing at all. Why not nearer Christmas or even when the original e1000 came out?

    • Cash flow, the earlier the release, the earlier the money roll in… later you’ll boost the sales with advertising etc.

  2. What a stupid idea, blue would have been a much better colour!

  3. I can only guess they’ve got a load of components on the cheap and whacked them into a white case.

While it’s out of the norm in the gaming world revising older products is commonplace in pretty much all other areas of electronic product sales.

  4. Yay… a white PSP.

  5. Oh blast, i scanned this article, hopped over to the blog to find out more about this ‘new’ PSP and then got the impression it had a built-in camera.. maybe i need glasses.. :/

  6. WTF.

  7. Why not…probably costs nothing to make and PSP is still a cracking console with some good games….it makes BUSINESS sense…

  8. Dont care about this but I do worry about Sonys marketing strategy as said in my forum thread a week ago. They just dont seem to have one that makes any sense if they even have one at all!

  9. Whered Sony’s industrial designers go? This is an abomination o_o
