In a rather staggering display of – well, we’ve no idea what – SCEE have just announced a new PSP. A new PSP. PSP. In white. We pinched ourselves, and it’s still there. We even checked the date.
Look, the damned thing is real:

Whilst we assume that in doing all this not a single second of research and development has been diverted away from future consoles and – you know – the PS Vita, this isn’t what Sony should be doing. They, and their consumers, need to focus on Vita.
There’s a brand new handheld console out there that’s suffering sales-wise, and this won’t help, it just won’t. This isn’t even a proper PSP, it’s that daft restricted thing that nobody even noticed when it was released in black.
We’re confused. Frightened. Shocked.

Well I’m not sure this is a hugely daft move, but I can’t understand the timing at all. Why not nearer Christmas or even when the original e1000 came out?

Cash flow, the earlier the release, the earlier the money roll in… later you’ll boost the sales with advertising etc.

What a stupid idea, blue would have been a much better colour!

I can only guess they’ve got a load of components on the cheap and whacked them into a white case.
While it’s out of the norm in the gaming world revising older products is commonplace in pretty much all other areas of electronic product sales.

Yay… a white PSP.

Oh blast, i scanned this article, hopped over to the blog to find out more about this ‘new’ PSP and then got the impression it had a built-in camera.. maybe i need glasses.. :/

WTF.
Foxhound_Solid
Why not…probably costs nothing to make and PSP is still a cracking console with some good games….it makes BUSINESS sense…

Dont care about this but I do worry about Sonys marketing strategy as said in my forum thread a week ago. They just dont seem to have one that makes any sense if they even have one at all!

Whered Sony’s industrial designers go? This is an abomination o_o
