Despite our earlier story hinting at Trophies for the PSP, Sony’s Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, has dashed all hope of this coming true in a brief discussion with JoyStiq during E3.
“You’re not going to see Trophies on the PSP,” he said, flatly, citing a “few reasons” for this, namely “keeping it secure”. He’s obviously talking about the fact that the PSP has been hacked, cracked and smacked for years now, and thus save games and cheats would be easy to run on the portable, presumably meaning easy Trophies by extension.
“If people can artificially inflate their rankings and amounts of Trophies it kills the whole [Trophy] system,” he concluded. “Keeping it secure, keeping it fair” would be the best solution all round. Let’s hope the PSPgo can’t be broken open at all and Trophies can, at some point, exist purely on the new model instead, even if it means a frequent connection to your PS3.
