Don’t get up, as from here on in you’re going to be hearing a lot of the following reports. In fact, we only highlight this particular news-nugget to hammer home a point.
Aliens Vs. Predator developer, Rebellion, have announced that the in-house proprietary engine that powers their most recent bug-hunt title, a wonderfully named piece of tech named Asura, is now fully supported by Sony’s new portable darling, the PSP2/NGP/whatever-we’re-calling-it-this-week.
The adaptation apparently took a few months, with the studio able to now show off a playable demo of a third person shooter. Interestingly, Aliens Vs. Predator was an FPS, which is likely more a sign of Asura’s versatility than anything else.
The studio claim Asura has been made compatible with the NGP in such record time due to the fact that, in terms of what you get out of the box, the technology is the entire package: engine, lighting, physics; it’s all part of the Asura bundle.
Jason Kingsley, Rebellion’s CEO said:
The technology, design and art teams have worked incredibly well with Sony’s newest device. We have managed to make our engine fully functional, and looking great on the hardware in double quick time. We’ll be attending DICE and GDC to show what we have created and look for business partners.

I’d love an NGP, but to me it seems to be turning into just a handheld playstation 3. And since I already have a PS3, which plays the same games (but better, I’m thinking towards Killzone NGP vs Killzone 3 and so on), offers better graphics and sound (surround), plus better controls (dualshock 3 and move) I don’t see the point in getting one. I’d rather have a 3DS, which has different games and seems more like a traditional handheld. Sorry Sony.
