2011 US NGP Launch “Reconfirmed” By Sony

Two of the most hotly anticipated pieces of news are the NGP’s price point and release date. US investment company Lazard Capital Markets has published a report on the NGP after claiming to have attended a recent Sony PlayStation analyst day. This report says SCEA has “reconfirmed” a 2011 launch window in the US.

“A 2011 launch for NGP was reconfirmed, although we expect pricing will be unveiled around the E3 conference.

We remain somewhat concerned that an initially high price point could limit the market opportunity for NGP, since Sony continues to balance profitability goals with unit sales.”

I don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to hear the official announcement.

    • Same here. If the price surpasses a certain point I stop caring about the release date anyways. :P

  3. Lets hope europe gets it at the same time and not like the PS3.

    • After the turmoil in Japan I can’t see it being released in Europe at the same time.

    • Remember the PSP launch? JP>NA>…>…>EU

      • Or the PSPgo launch: EU & NA > JP

      • I don’t know why they would make the release date earlier in US since PlayStation stuff has been selling better in EU

      • The need to stimulate the US market may be exactly the reason to release in the US first.

  4. I can see this being around the £300 maybe even £400 mark. Hopefully though they will price it similar to the 3DS.

    • it’ll have to be lower than that, if its around £300-400 it’ll end up being the same mistake Sony made with the PS3

      • £300-£400 ? If its anywhere near that price I don’t think they will find many customers at all. Thats ridiculous.

      • I wont be getting it at that price. Ive set my limit at £250, hope it wont be more that that

      They didn’t say it was only coming out in the US in 2011, did they?
      And SCEA can only speak for SCEA, not the rest of Sony.

      • Well if it goes like most of the console releases Japan will get it first then the US and then EU and PAL.

  6. If they price it similar with the 3DS, it will be totally ok for me. 3DS is at 269.99 EUROS in Greece. I am really willing to pay up to 350 EUROS on day one. Anything more than that will mean that people will consider it “expensive” and search for other similar devices. eg 3DS and Iphone

  7. Good times, will have to see how competitive it can be price wise however with the amount of incredible features they’ve packed into it.

  8. im hoping for a price around the £250 mark at its max but i doubt that will happen with the amount of tech going into it.
    also a release around the end of the year maybe december or early jan next year would be good for the EU

  10. I hope the price will be like £250-£300 and the 3G version £300-£350.
