Speaking to OXM, the Lead Gameplay Designer on FIFA 12 has said that they’ve made the biggest changes to the series since the current generation revamp in 2007. That iteration saw the game’s first appearances on HD consoles and included changes to gameplay such as ball spin being affected by the pitch and each individual player’s ability and strength with each foot.
The new Impact Engine removes the need for stock collision animations and makes factors such as momentum have a much greater relevance to tackles. Aaron McHardy, the Lead Gameplay Designer, says that the new engine allows for a lot more accuracy and fluidity in the collision detections. As always with the yearly franchise, they’re also looking to the future with this upgrade.
When you think about the resilience of the player and the ability for someone to take a hit and continue dribbling, we didn’t have that ability before in our game because you were either dribbling or you were stumbling. Now we have that grey area and it’s something we can play with down the line, just to give you some vision of where we see these kind of things going.
FIFA 12’s new Impact Engine has a lot to live up to if these claims are to be realised on its release. With last year’s huge improvements to the PES series and more promised this year, it will be very interesting to see how the dominant FIFA franchise answers that increased competition.

What I really liked in the World Cup games was the ability in Captain Your Country mode to have more than one person playing locally. Me and my mate had great fun picking a particular country, creating a player each and taking them to glory, while improving our players. Surely something very similar is possible with the be a pro mode

Agreed. The best time was when my and my three housemates were playing. As we were playing a game I said something innocuous like “I don’t think it’s possible to get subbed in this”. A few moments earlier one of my mates got subbed and none of us realised until someone clocked that he was holding his controller only pretending to play. Brilliant.

The cheater! Ha ha our finest moment was taking Wales to the finals, and winning. We didn’t want to be shunned in favour of Lampard and Gerrard! It was also just great to compete for captaincy. Weirdly, my copy of the game stopped working once I’d bought FIFA 11, no lie

There should be a subbuteo mini game. Make it happen EA, surely I’m not being unreasonable?

Having spent a lot of time with MLB 11: The Show recently, it’s very apparent to me that both football games have so many areas in which they can improve greatly. I’d like to believe that every year, they make the best game that they can possibly make but the cynic in me feels like they drip-feed the improvements and updates.
I’m happy to say though, that makes very good reading and I’m pleased that EA appear to be taking FIFA very seriously even in the face of the humungous sales the game generates.
I’m always more than happy to try both games out but usually the style of PES appeals to me more, I look forward to seeing what both companies produce.

I like everything there is to FIFA games apart from one thing which they must change and that’s the modes of play which you have. In recent years the player growth of a team in career mode is laughable, with little to no change you feel like you’re just not getting anywhere in comparison to FIFA 09’s ability to get players to 99 overall. I know this is to make the game more realistic but come on, I’m just having a bit of fun in career mode and it’s not like I can use that team against anyone in any mode by career.
The next flaw is the epic slowness of moving between matches, I do not want to have to wait so long between matches. I also want to have a few modes in FIFA which are just there for fun, like lounge mode but with a bit more creativity.
When I got FIFA 11 back in October my instant reaction was that I would not buy FIFA 12 as it just didn’t feel like the game had progressed much and would prefer to just keep playing FIFA world cup as it was a rather nice game with the super realization that headers could be achieved!
However, after going back to FIFA 11 so much due to Ultimate Team being free I have came to realize how good the game actually is and how much time one spends on it is fantastic value.
If FIFA 12 does NOT pick up the fun element and make the game faster in menus and such then I will not buy 2 copies of the game, I will just buy one and I think that’s how it’s going to go forever as a COD addict would never miss a year edition even if it’s the exact same game with a name change.
I wanted to try PES 2011 due to how much I liked the demo but I never got round to it and therefore probably never will. Better luck next time on persuading me to buy you PES, you did a good job this year :)
P.S. I bought 2 copies of FIFA 11 due to getting my own PS3 away from home where my brother has our first one.

they need to get rid of all the bugs ingame, especially online. the latest ones where it just makes your players invisible, jump about, freeze, etc til someone quits is a killer!
the game needs to liven up too. the pre match cameos, entrances, goal celebrations by the crowd, celebrations on winning cups, etc are all absolutely dreadful and havent changed since the early noughties!

FIFA 11 is a good game all i want is all the bugs and glitches removed and a few improvements such as a new free kick system, new english commentator’s not Tyler and Gray and definitly not Townsend and whoever it is on (sh)ITV. i don’t want to know who the ref is unless perhaps they put real refs in FIFA 12. the substitutions bore me to death and i couldn’t care less how far some player has ran. improvements to the fatigue BS not many players on FIFA 11 can play saturday wednesday saturday without getting a message he’s fatigued and you need to rest him whats that about then cos people with real jobs have had to do that and more to get this seasons fixtures caught up cos of bad weather back in November and December. There’s a lot more I’d like to see improved and even removed like ultimate team for 1 but i’ll spare you for now.

I just got FIFA 10 for 2 quid and I found it quite better than 11, I must say…
