Instead of forcing people to splash out on another full FIFA game, this year’s Euro release willbe an expansion pack (remember when we used to call them that?) for FIFA 12, a press release issued this morning has confirmed.
The bolt-on will be released on the 24th of April (for PC, PS3 and 360) and will “recreate all the excitement of the official tournament with over 50 European national teams, all eight official stadiums, and all the pageantry and atmosphere of one of the largest and most-watched sporting events on the planet.”
There’s also an all new “Expedition Mode” designed for this new title, which allows gamers to build a squad and compete against others.
“Fans will choose their favourite European player or FIFA 12 Virtual Pro to captain their customized team, win matches to earn better players from defeated nations, and then defeat the best nations to earn the best players in a campaign quest to defeat all 53 countries and complete the journey to conquer Europe”
“Plus,” says the press release, “you will be able to relive dramatic moments from the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying campaign with challenges based on real-life matches, and replay key moments from the UEFA EURO 2012 tournament.”

..but will they change gameplay?
MadBoJangles
I’ve always been amazed that they released a full game in the past.
Generally speaking the spin-off title is no different.
a inferior race
The spin-off title was always different and generally crap

This is excellent news! Champions League DLC next please!!!
cc_star
PES does an excellent job of presenting the Champions League… FIFA has the Champions Cup
Youles
I really couldn’t get into PES since PES4/5/6 on PS2. However the lack of prestige given to the “Champions Cup” in FIFA makes it seem less important. That all important champions league music, logo, Continetal and Amstel sponsors make all the difference! :)
I do remember the specific Champions League game on PSOne or PS2, that was excellent!
halbpro
Wonder how much it’ll be. Much better approach in general though.

£39.99.
They have to recoup the losses from not doing a new release, don’t they? :)
tonycawley
But the also don’t have all the costs associated with a retail release which should bring the price down. I’m guessing £24.99
Origami Killer
But then again its EA.
Forrest_01
Just to clarify, i was kidding.
Whilst i think that some foolish people might buy it at the price of £39.99, i would like to think that the rest of the planet may not be so bloody gullible!
JoshHood
£15 apparently.
colossalblue
£15.99 or 1800MSP.

Ive been banging on about how FIFA should do this DLC based add ons for ages now. Nice to see it finally implemented. Wouldn’t wan’t to see it above £20.

This is really disappointing news.
It means the gameplay won’t be changed at all, and the best thing about the spin offs was there’s always tighter, more realistic gameplay, possibly because they don’t have to recreate so many teams and players.
My favourite FIFA so far by far is 2010 World Cup, as the players felt so much like their real counterparts.
Also, will this be available for the PS Vita? I hope so.
Youles
You raise some good points – I did like that they maybe tried something new with the game mechanics, to fine tune or experiment. Also since there are fewer squads the players did seem to have more individuality and recognisable traits. I used to like the menus etc too with all the official logos and sponsors, gets you in the mood for the competition!
Good shout on the Vita too, that would be awesome!
Forrest_01
I would personally wait & see how it is integrated – It may be a menu option that then goes to a tweaked version of the game with tighter controls, less teams, proper branding on menus & all the other stuff that was mentioned above.
Of course it might just be a downloadable tournament, but y’know…
Youles
True – I would be pleasantly surprised if it is! I suspect (due to sponsorship deals and the suggested £15 price) that it will certainly look a lot different (menus/stadiums/crowds)!
Sympozium
Yeah but its a tournament title it gets old fast, so dlc is good news.
colmshan1990
Trade it if you think that. I’ve bought and traded every FIFA title since World Cup. 11 and 12 were good games, but just don’t stack up, I keep going back to World Cup.
Jacko
I don’t really like football games too much usually, but I really enjoyed 2010 World Cup. The gameplay was so much more different and fun. And the online World Cup mode was addictive. (Except everyone used Spain all the time, the cheats).
If they’d have kept the gameplay of 2010 World Cup in FIFA 11, I would have probably gone completely mad and bought that too.
tonycawley
This is excellent news, do you know what its done? It’s made me keep my copy when I was considering trading it.
Expedition mode sounds excellent. I’ll be picking this up for definite.
cc_star
Mixed bag of news really, these spinoff games were where FIFA bought new ideas & gameplay to the series, but at least the price is reduced from a full game.
bigbaldwolf
I think this is a good thing. The spin offs never interested me as they weren’t the ‘full’ game but if I can have an expansion like this then it can be part of FIFA 12 still. I’m suprised they haven’t done this before to be honest
colmshan1990
Also, this means that there’ll be no more trading FIFA.
I have to buy FIFA 12 again, and keep it if I want to keep Euro 2012.
Normally I trade my FIFA in just ahead of getting the next edition (like I did with FIFA 12 to get the Vita).
Also, press release makes no mention of the PS Vita. :(
Maybe it can get a separate game? I want to bring it to Poland!
