FIFA 12 To Feature Exclusive Man City Content

Electronic Arts appears to have chosen their favourite football/soccer team. Today EA Sports announced that exclusive Manchester City FC content will feature in this year’s FIFA game.

The biggest Manchester City only feature is the use of 360 degree head scan shots of the club’s squad. This will presumably make the recreation of the Manchester City team in FIFA 12 the most realistic of them all.

Special dedicated content will also be distributed from the club themselves as well as via EA Sports channels.

Nick Harford, EA Sports’ Football Business Lead, said on the collaboration:

“We are delighted to be entering into a dynamic new partnership with Manchester City. Through this agreement, EA Sports will invest in the creation of bespoke content and experiences that bring Manchester City fans across the globe closer to the team they love.”

While Manchester City fans should be delighted by the news, it will no doubt aggrieve other football/soccer fans, leaving them asking why their team has not been given the royal treatment either.

  1. Whats the point? its using disc space up right? what about gameplay?

  2. I heard EA are paying £500m for the rights to do this. City should be well within the financial fair play limits…

    • Got a source? I love some more ammunition for the World to hate City.

      • No one actually hate city! There not a threat to any team on the world

        Night night,

      • That’s not true I hate City.

In all seriousness though, I doubt EA have paid City that much, but if they have FIFA need to step in before they completely destroy the financial fair play rules that should be benefiting the game, but City seem intent on walking all over.

      • Nah I was joking. I’m from the other half of Manchester.

    • Bollocks. A million maybe, but half a billion? No. They’d have to sell 5 billion copies of FIFA to make a profit.

      • It is bollocks, yes. I was making a joke in reference to the recent payment of approx. £500m from Etihad to Man City in exchange for the naming rights to their stadium for 10 years or so. Geeeeez guys…

  3. If I was a City fan I think I’d be rather irritated. They’re obviously funding this so it’s essentially coming out of the season ticket holders pockets. What a waste of money!! Embarrassing in my opinion.

    • Highest standard season ticket is £600. Very reasonable.

      • But still, whether it’s £6 or £600 surely you’d still want your money to go somewhere useful and meaningful.

      • Depends if you think support a football club is meaningful. It’s just advertising, like selling replica kits.

      • Yeah I suppose that’s true. It’s a difficult one. I suppose the bigger the club, the bigger the ambition, the further they’ll go to ensuring success. Smaller clubs don’t have such luxuries. Maybe meaningful isn’t the right word, but in my opinion it is waste of money that could be put to good use in other areas.

  4. Couldnt give a damn about the exclusive man city content. Im buying fifa12 because Swansea will be in the premier league! :D means we should have half decent stats so I can try and compete with barcelona every fucking game online! ;). Good on EA, this will inevitably lead to other clubs doing the same. Better in game content for us!

    *walks away*

    • ^chuckles:)
Think i’ll stay out of this one too.
(cough, cmon the magpies, love you pes: Makes a sharp exit for the virtual turnstiles.)

    • Always seems to bring arguments and stuff.

  6. This is the one article where comments should have been disabled.

    • Most of th…aaarrrrrgh! *Gets gagged by Blair*

    • We won the league a billions times, oh no we’re making history!

I’ve heard…. its bloody awful, I just cringe at “we” they’re not even part of the club just idiots.

      • thats a bit harsh isnt it? To call people idiots for supporting their club? and just to disprove your point, As a Swansea City FC supporter, I am a member of the supporters trust, that own 20% of the club, so yeah, I am a part of the club, and I also get a vote and other things like that. Granted, its a very rare occurance these days for supporters to hold a share of the club, but it does happen.

      • I don’t mean all, just a few in my experience… was a bit flawed

  7. Sorta laughed when I saw this…
“Manchester City fans across the globe”

    • I think ‘The Globe’ is a pub in Manchester somewhere.

  8. Manchester who? There’s another team in Manchester…? Oh right yeah, that team that tried to replicate Chelsea by buying the league, but instead have wasted millions on average talent like Balotelli, Dzeko and David Silva. Just joining the digs at Man Shitty, there. Being a Gooner, I used to love City; we hammered them by 3 or 4 every year AND they caused the occasional upset to United on the odd occasion. Ah, those were the days, when we actually competed for the whole season and Chelsea and City were barely challenging for Europe.

On a more related note, EA have obviously been paid a lot for this, and they made the right choice, seeing as 90% of people (online especially) seem to play as them due to them being over-rated and all…

    • Whey gooooonnnerrr!!!! I also used to love city but now I hate them almost as much as spurs. I hope Fifa gives city’s players bad stats…
On a side note: I think city need to invest some money in educating their footballers – for example teaching balotelli how to put on a bib, check it out on youtube if you haven’t seen it already.

  9. I fucking hate football.

    • I fucking hate soccer…

      • oh and Tennis, Rugby and Golf to although Northern Irish golfers winning a few opens, thats cool.

  10. I’m sick of Manchester city. They think that they can buy their way to the top…just sickens me. They are improving year on year but I still think that they shouldn’t spend so much money on footballers.
As an Arsenal fan, my heart hates spurs, but my brain hates city.

Fifa could never turn down an offer from Manchester city and its no suprise that something like this is happening. Just shows how desperate city are to gain a fan base.

Sorry this post is basically me expressing my hatred for city, but I don’t think that they should be able to barge into Fifa with their money. Shame Fifa agreed but what can you do. Oh well.
